The Sage 5 has a compression lock like the Para 3. That's why I bought it.
Fair enough, in reality the Comp lock and liner lock are variations on a theme and the lock really isn’t the defining feature between the two knives.
Depends, I'm totally sold on the compression lock over every other lock out there. I love the easy one-handed open and close and my Para 3s are perfectly adjusted.
Fair enough-
I think for the most part the market lacks quality liner locks and the sage 1 is just that, for what it’s worth it opens and closes one handed with ease if that’s the yard stick you use, again because they are functional the same thing.
Not really, I can open and close my Para 3 10 times before you can open and close the Sage.
Can you find it and can it cut?

The fidget factor isn’t really the main selling point to me personally, open speed is the same in the two knives and I’m not really rushing to pack it way, the fraction of a second isn’t a loss for me.
I think the main considerations for the OP are likely to extend beyond floppy blade flicks.

I agree Dave. Too many people out there buy knives for the "flick/fun factor" rather than what it's actually designed for. Very sad those people judge a knife, based on those factors alone and sometimes don't even know how to properly "use" a knife. Drives me nuts!

Between the sage5 and para, I like the sage better, and because my preference is a bottom lock bar, it's the sage1 for me.

I'm sorry the two of you somehow focused on some non-existent fidget-factor into what I was saying. I'm not some 12 year old ADHD kid, I'm more like the Grandfather to a 12 year old kid. I have been collecting knives for over 40 years and have literally hundreds of liner locks, back locks, frame locks, comp locks and locks you've probably never even imagined.

Again, IMO I find comp locks far superior to all available lock types. BladeHQ's lock bust testing found then to be one of the very strongest. This my opinion so no need to denigrate with the BS fidget argument. Daily I carry 2 back locks and 1 frame lock in addition to my Para 3.

Yeah, I’m not sure why you have turned it into some comp lock vs liner lock thing anyway, I’m thrilled you can flick your knife and are a grandfather but that’s not what we are talking about.
I was simply saying that between a sage and para 3 I think the sage is a nicer more refined knife in my hand but could see people feeling that way about the para, having owned both.

I personally kept the sage 1 as I prefer the liner lock over comp locks as they are essentially the same thing but I find the detent in the liner lock to be a bit stronger in my example, certainly stronger than any of the dozen or so comp lock knives I have owned.
As far as BHQs testing goes, the take away is that while a mildly interesting time waste it is completely irrelevant in any sort of real world use case.

I currently have a sage 1 and I like a good liner lock, unfortunately recently that have been relegated to budget offerings, a quality liner lock is a thing of beauty.
I have had a few para 3 and while it’s a perfectly good knife the sage feels more comfortable to my hand, feels more refined and carries better for my use.
That said someone could go the opposite way and I could see their point of view, both are great knives just slightly different useage cases.
I agree. I’m delighted with my recent Sage (1) in terms of size, ergo’s, quality etc. It’s my first liner lock for a while because this has the thumb saving choil so vital in a folder so smooth in operation.
