I'm the kinda guy that has come to respect the Glesser family and appreciate the work they do.
That being said...
I expect a "Top Notch Quality" no excuses tolerances fit and finish design snafus should be all good,
I don't want to hear nothing..make it right!!
Then the fair price.. is what it is.

Re: yet another "price increase"
Times are harder and more competitive than they were. But when times were better and pay increases flowed more freely each year,
if the OP is old enough tom remember I bet they didn't complain then about either the pay increase or price increases.
This follows on from Sal's thread on price increases, and someone put do more work, earn more money, get a better paying job.
I agree with him, although it's easier in some countries than others.
Lastly, what we spend on knives is IMHO disposable income, if the price increases $50, then I smoke 2 packets less and put the $50
towards the knife. Or do a delivery job and get $50.

Re: yet another "price increase"
I'm a big fan of Cold Steels products. I own some folders and fixed blades from them.
I could easily get by with my Large PE Voyager. It's a great knife for the $50 I paid.
But I much prefer my Police 4 from Spyderco.
Sure, costing 4x as much can make it hard for some folks to justify the purchase, but the performance and design quality is worth it to me.
Also, I think the Byrd Cara Cara is the best value folder on the market, and has been for about a decade now. The redesigned 2 sports better slicing geometry than the original, along with a few other refinements. I challenge you to find a superior single blade locking knife for the money.
Spyderco offers products to fit any budget.

Re: yet another "price increase"
To be fair I am often ticked off at the prices. let me explain: My financial situation/job is not the greatest. My interests are not cheap; high end bicycles, reproduction/ practical sparring swords, and archery. And of course Spydercos. The difference is I use the spydercos at work, opening boxes, climbing ladders, unloading stuff. It is hard to spend a large chunk of $ on a knife and then decide to use it daily and risk damage. But I try to save up for what I want and make it work.
It would be nice if the Spydercos were cheaper in price, but not if it meant cheaper quality. It is frustrating, but also given some of the models I like are made here and costs here are higher well yes they cost more. But also because of that cost some guy working at Spyderco might actually be able to afford the knife he makes. In other words, quality (and decent wages) have a cost. I find it easier to deal with the higher cost knowing that hopefully some of it is going to pay the people who make the knives enough that they aren't in my financial position lol!
That said, I want them because they are well made and well designed. Sal and others there are responsible for that. I would not choose to insult the people who designed the product I desire, simply because I cannot afford it at the time. After all, give them credit for coming up with good stuff that you want, at least.
That said, merry Christmas,

Never break-up with a knife manufacturer.

Re: yet another "price increase"
It is unfortunate that prices increase, I've always thought the quality of every Spyderco I have bought is far beyond what I have expected for the price however. If a small price increase means I'll end up with a few less knives next year, but no reduction in quality, I'm fine with that.
Just buy less and value them more, and the value is certainly enormous

Re: yet another "price increase"
What is the answer for those who desire a quality Spyderco knife like the Native but their budget is lower, more in the Byrd range?
To save up until they can purchase a Native or related knife?

Re: yet another "price increase"
One reason as to why I can live with the price increases, is because Sal takes good care of his employees. Or, at least that's what I understand. And, that ain't cheap.
Re: yet another "price increase"
Wasted opportunity too. If nope had some old classics in his collection he could return as an old school guy and share what he has. But he didn’t hang on to them.
Re: yet another "price increase"
I love my Spyderco's more and more as time passes and don't have regret about purchasing them and plan to purchase more in 2019. I think you get great product for the money spent. I'm finding myself less interested in B*******e folders as time passes... maybe due to price, quality, and design. Spyderco seems to do those three things better. I see they (B*******e) are discontinuing a number of offerings for 2019 so maybe others are feeling the same, but maybe just business as usual. I got along fine with less costly USA made B**k knives for many years before I ever owned a Spyderco and suspect I could do the same now if needed but prefer to spend the additional funds and get the Spyderco. Our paths will be crossing come stock show.

P.S. I think there are much bigger issues that need complaining about ... like medical health care premiums. Won't be long and very few of us will have disposable income if current trends continue ... but everyone seems willing to pay their monthly's. Good knives aren't robbing us poor.

So many knives - so little funds!!!
Re: yet another "price increase"
Yes, I think you have the right to complain about a knife but only a little. It's not like you bought a car or a house and it's a problem child. Okay, you don't like the price increase but there isn't a law (sadly) that requires you to own a Spyderco. I'm sure "stuff" happens but I have yet to experience a "bad" Spyderco knife and I think I have 80+.
Also, the price is ALWAYS going to go up at some point. Does anyone here think Spyderco makes knives simply to please everyone and everything? NO, first they have to make a profit or they disappear, then they have to judge which products will achieve the sales goals that maintain the company based on customer feedback. Which they DO!
If this somehow is offensive then I suggest you start your own company doing whatever you are best at and then reply in a year as to whether you are doing great or living under an overpass.
I've been a knife ho since Johnson was President and in my humble opinion IMHO, Spyderco is the very best, bar none.

Re: yet another "price increase"
You know, after thinking about all of this, I have to say that (odd as this may sound), I trust Spyderco -- that they are not gouging, but just doing what they have to do to stay in business and be profitable. They are caught between increasing costs on one hand, and the loss of sales that comes when you raise prices on the other. Then there is the temptation to cut corners and make cheap crap that so many companies succumb to.
I will always pay extra for G10 and very few knives I own are (or will be) FRN or FRCP. But that is just me, and I can virtually guarantee that I don't represent the majority of Spyderco's customer base. Their bread and butter may be mid or low-mid priced knives. I don't know what the pie chart looks like or what the details of running a sucessful business is all about.
I don't see my income increasing to compensate, but that is OK. If I never bought another knife, I would have more than I need or deserve already. Beyond one good knife, these are luxury items for me, but things I enjoy. Above all else I would like to see Spyderco stay in business without lowering its standards.

It's funny watching people complain about prices increases, I sometimes wonder if it's the price / increase or the fact someone is making a profit.
And people who complain about "profit margins" in retail need to look at things like you said, health premiums.
The other aspect is, I sometimes ask who they work for and what they do, quite often its for a company that sells stuff for profit
and I have a fair idea of the profit margins on a lot of products (at least here in Australia). So they object to someone else increasing price
but not the company they work for who pays their salary.
Lastly, I look at what things cost me over a lifetime. If it's more than a few $$$$, then I expect quality and something that will last.
Now the one Spyderco Endura 1 I have, as a guess would (probably) have cost me A$60-80 in the early 90's.
So it's cost me between $2.14 and $2.86 per year to own it.
Puts it in perspective! (especially when I spend $20-30 per day on ciggies)
