As for the CBBL sage... I'd probably pass. I'd love an actual Mini Manix though.
I would also much prefer a Mini Manix, but besides us sprinkling the forum with requests, there's been no apparent progress towards a smaller CBBL Manix. At present, the best way I see to get a smaller CBBL knife is through the Sage series.
A true Mini Manix could possibly be achieved by reducing the scale of the current Manix 2 to 88% or 73% to get it under 3" and 2.5" respectively. Of course, not all components would need to be scaled down, and some design elements would need to be adjusted in other ways to keep it ergonomically/functionally sound in the smaller renditions.

Are the regular compression lock knives considered gravity knives where you are? If not, I don't see why a knife with a button compression lock would be. What's the difference if you press a button or a tab to swing the blade open?....
It's funny I've actually thought about that, I open my pm2 pressing the tab like that sometimes, and yes when used like that I think it does come close to being a gravity knife by definition (from wiki- "The gravity knife uses a button, trigger, or fulcrum lever to release the blade from both the open and the closed positions, and may use a side-folding or telescoping (out-the-front, or OTF) blade.").
The difference is I don't think most people would intuitively think to press the compression lock tab to open the knife, but a button?...
There is already an 'anti-button' sentiment to our knife laws here, and where as someone unfamiliar with knives wouldn't think to depress the compression lock tab to open the knife, I could totally see people instinctively assuming that pushing a button was the way to open the knife. And when they push the button, if the blade falls free... they may decide you have a gravity knife.
Look at the problems they have at the Canadian border with flippers right now. It's not a huge stretch of the imagination to think that someone might interpet a push button compression lock as a gravity knife IMO. (As a life long California resident, our weapons laws and their interpretations have never inspired me with confidence that rational thinking will prevail here. I can carry an Espada XL, but not a 2.1 inch switchblade or balisong cause you know, those are dangerous  )
a more forward backlock(positioned about where the sage 5 lock is) front lock.
with handle shape and size as sage 3. that little extra dimension is my favorite.
peal ply carbon, as either 1 3 or 5. love all of the finishes so far.
no liners would be fantastic.

Sounds like a sage 4 with the lock moved slightly forward
