I use the ultrafine stones on my SE blades and I like the results. My thinking is a highly polished edge on a SE blades optimizes the area its weakest in - push cutting. The serrations themselves provide more slicing aggression than a toothy finish does, so no worries there.
Using a highly polished SE knife that push cuts through thin receipt paper was an eye opener after only using dulled SE blades.

I purchased a ultra fine stone, it did seem to bring the knife to another level of sharpness

My solution for sharpening a serrated knife is to hire a professional to do it.
