Many of us have been waiting for the stop lock to be seen in the wild. The patent pictures have been floating around here for years. Does anyone recall ever seeing a prototype before? Surely this must be a good sign of things to come. If this knife has a Military style blade, like the blade in the patent drawings, then I'm with you, it's a must buy.Wanimator wrote:My knife highlight for prototypes was handling a stoplock. The best part is that (unless my memory is just totally broken) it's another fantastic-looking Paul Alexander design. But it's not exactly a Military. :pKingRat wrote:Many of us have been waiting for the stop lock to be seen in the wild. The patent pictures have been floating around here for years. Basically a larger Ourboros. I loved it. The design without the stop lock is a must buy and very usable. Sal told me some interesting stuff about the Stop Lock as well.

Re: Blade Show Excitement
Thank you so much for the compliment buddy. It was kind of surreal seeing my design in the prototype display. The design has undergone some modifications and improvements since I first handed the prototype to Spyderco and this was the first time I had seen the various little changes implemented. I could not be any more happy with the knife but I am enormously biased...obviously, haha. It makes me really happy to hear that someone else likes the design. :)animportant wrote:I didn't know they took away the composite, nice looking knife for sure.
And as for Lance's knife, I'll let Sal, Eric, or Lance provide details. Truly bad ***. I'm in the market for a lightweight, ergonomic, stainless, tough little belt knife and this fits the bill.

I'm 99% sure I was standing near you when he was telling you all that. Something about having the design for the lock for a while, and also it was the first lock on the Tenacious but the maker couldn't get it right...Wanimator wrote:Basically a larger Ourboros. What are the general specs of this knife?
Re: Blade Show Excitement
I don't recall anything about the tenacious in Sal's statement. There are always 2-3 important threads of conversation going on at BLADE.dplafoll wrote:I'm 99% sure I was standing near you when he was telling you all that. The general specs on it were that it was around 3.5 in of blade give or take and was basically just a larger Ourboros with a stop lock.

Thanks Sal, pleasure meeting you sir!sal wrote:It's ok to discuss the designs for protos and concepts. We prefer that no images are shared until the knife, if made, is closer to production.

Ok so Lance's knife. Before anything is said about the knife, think about who designed the knife, a guy who's getting out there using his blades hard every single day. That's the kind of blade I'm looking for.
It's light, I'd guess about 5 oz, 6 tops. The handle has nice ergos without creating too much size. It's not flat like the Junction, but not as rounded as the Phil Wilson knives, if I remember correctly. I think the scales were g10 if my memory serves correctly, sculpted for grip with an ergonomic rounded diamond shape. The blade has nice belly and a flat spine of lc200n, but blade height is probably only around an inch. Not overly thick, but not too thin. Maybe 3 - 3.25 mm... 3.5 max? Full flat grind. When I get outdoors I like to move fast, and I carry a couple knives on me daily. I see no reason why this one wouldn't always be in my pack. There was another knife I wanted (also a Spydie fixed) but will be waiting for this instead.
Re: Blade Show Excitement
It was interesting to handle Lance's experimental folder. I'll have to set up connections with more of you guys.
Re: Blade Show Excitement
I'm bummed the stop lock proto isn't the Military 2, however I still take it as a good sign. My two most sought after knives are the Military 2 and the Native Chief. The Shaman should be out in a few months, which could mean we are closer to the Chief then ever. With a stop lock out in the wild, gauging on the reaction, the Military 2 might be closer to reality than it's ever been.Wanimator wrote:Basically a larger Ourboros. I loved it. That must have been an overwhelmingly awesome feeling! What's better is when you will receive it in a little rectangular red box! Re: Blade Show Excitement
I just googled the patent for folding knife with integral stop pin, cool design, definitely looked like a Millie to me, but I don't know who this Louis S. Glesser guy is that they have listed on the patent as the inventor

Yea what is up with that. Lack of threads too, compared to previous years.Able Dog wrote:I'm surprised by the general lack of Blade Show videos this year. Not just for Spyderco knives, but across the board. The Shaman looks very promising though.

Lance, I know you are proud to see your knife on display. I can't wait for its debut as a production blade.

I'm liking the Lil' Native! Especially the slipjoint. Sounds cool! **** all of them do.
Re: Blade Show Excitement
Me too, though I am leaning towards the compression lock version. It just feels really nice in the hand, and it'll be a good alternative model in that size range.BDNX wrote:I'm liking the Lil' Native! Especially the slipjoint. Sounds cool! **** all of them do.

Re: Blade Show Excitement
I will say that the Shaman's handle is easily one of the best folding knife handles I've seen for my comfort. It's thinner than a Griptillian but softer, rounder and more ergonomic.
The Carribean Salt was pretty cool as well.
