NoFair, this piece has seen many travels but you already knew that. :) Thanks everyone and very happy to see a few in here. It has definitely found a good home with many friends to keep it company. To give rumor to an answer above, I have heard it was made possibly in the late 80's but still awaiting solid confirmation on that. Still freaking out! :D

Nice catch RIchie. Dino bone varies considerably in color, and your knife has one of he most attractive pieces of it that I've seen.

He's probably the only one who can pin down a date. Dug through The Spyderco Story for an hour or so. Came up with nothing beyond the fact that 30 were made and given to employees and suppliers as gifts. I'd say they have to have been made in the very late 80's to very early 90's because earlier Executives lacked the chamfered edge on the handle and later ones had steel markings. That's also the time period when Spyderco started working with Gary Blanchard, David Yellowhorse, and Santa Fe Stoneworks.

The Dino bone executives were made in the mid 80's. We made 30 pieces to say thank you to a number of people that had helped us with the line. Vendors, crew, associates, etc. The knives were made by our original vendor in Seki-City. We are still working with them today. I worked with the father and the son. Eric is working with the grandson. Long term partnership.

The handles were put on by Bill Wirtle of Santa Fe Stone Works out of dino bone he had on hand. He did a beautiful job.

Congrats on acquiring the piece. One of the really rare pieces of our history.
