A hatchet, minimal sharpening tools, a whistle (if you're not choosing the Spyderco Assist), glass breaker, a long runtime flashlight (the older maglites with LSD NiMh batteries), a high output flashlight (2D ROP).

I picked up a couple of glass breaking maglite tailcaps (bust-a-cap is a name brand).

I like the cordage and wire suggestions.

Two pairs of gloves and a good flashlight. One pair of rough heavyweight leather gloves to change a tire with and another nice insulated pair for warmth and comfort. Also I suggest knowing how to change a flat before the time comes to do it. There are you tube videos on just about every make and model
