SE for bread has it's advantages, lots of points and a greater edge/blade length ratio. It's not a saw however :)
As always it's up to the individual :) Any very sharp knife will cut bread well :D

A bit coarser edge would be best, but, like I said, most households probably have dull/dullish knives, so naturally the big ol' serrated bread knife gets the job. Just because "they" say we should use a SE for bread, doesn't mean it's law. Just saying my opinion, and I do use "the big ol' serrated bread knife" at work every day. At home, I enjoy a quality Spyderco blade to cut some food items. As a side note, when cutting through buns, like I do countless times, I prefer a SE (at work) because my chef's knife is so sharp I'm scared of it slicing my palm.

I do not think that even the best folder with fully serrated edge would cut fresh artisan bread as good as half decent 8-10" bread knife.
