Realistic dream knives?
A smaller, Native or Delica-sized Manix2 with FFG would be great in my opinion. Or another Dodo in a less flashy color like gray or brown for instance. Also I think a Calypso or CalypsoJr. in the style of Al Mar's ultralight knives could be interesting. Pinned construction and linerless smooth G10 handles because Mr.Glesser doesn't like micarta anymore
I just meant, realistic as in something already in production that wouldn't necessitate a completely new model. Throwing a compression lock on a 80mm Manix is a completely new model. A DLC treatment or different scale material, or even a different blade grind seems pretty reasonable to me as they're all things that have happened during standard production of many knives.
I'm really just trying to butter up Sal to make me a DLC Yojimbo 2 and/or FFG the standard Manix 2 :D

I think my dream knives except the mini Manix2 are not too unrealistic or are they?Evil D wrote:I just meant, realistic as in something already in production that wouldn't necessitate a completely new model. I want to see the next swick in DLC. I don't think that's too much to ask.

Probably not from a production standpoint but they don't currently exist so they'll take a lot more work to make into reality. It could take years to develop a new model from the ground up. The Dodo seems pretty easy to pull off and could be a reality since the popularity of the Dodo seems to be there at least for the sprint runs.Ignaz wrote:I think my dream knives except the mini Manix2 are not too unrealistic or are they?

I did a design with them from the start and just signed paperwork a few months ago. I think when it's all said and done, making my dream knife a reality with Spyderco will have been almost a 4 year process. Sprint variations seem to take about a year.Evil D wrote:Probably not from a production standpoint but they don't currently exist so they'll take a lot more work to make into reality. Have you posted pics of what it'll look like yet? If not can you PM me a sneak peak? :DSolidState wrote:I did a design with them from the start and just signed paperwork a few months ago. I'm sure most guys feel the same but I really believe I could design some amazing knives. I really wish I had the skills and tools to make my own.

I really regret not getting in on the M4/S90V Military sprints. I would especially like the M4 version, but I won't pay the secondary premiums for one.Cheygriz wrote:I have 3 dream knives

My number 4 would be :
Millie, B-U K-390
And how about a "Big ol' honkin" 10 Inch Bowie in 0170-6 or 52100? :D

From what I've read, you have all of the necessary tools, knowledge and skill to make it happen. I learned a bunch of what I know from you, and I did it. Designs don't need to be made of metal for them to prove the concept. I did mine with the plastic of an old trash can, some dowels and did all of the cutting with my Spyderco knives. The important part is that once you have something, you can only talk to Spyderco about it. The second you post a picture of it to the forum, you've basically killed the opportunity for yourself by disclosing your innovation publicly. For obvious reasons of maintaining the edge on the market, Spyderco is serious about non-disclosure agreements.Evil D wrote:Have you posted pics of what it'll look like yet? My dream knives were supposed to be sprint runs because to my knowledge discontinued Spydercos stay discontinued. By the way I think I read about an upcoming CalypsoJr. :cool:Evil D wrote:Probably not from a production standpoint but they don't currently exist so they'll take a lot more work to make into reality. Oh I get that, I just wasn't sure if it had been shown yet in any fashion.SolidState wrote:From what I've read, you have all of the necessary tools, knowledge and skill to make it happen. I think if I had a shop full of the right tools, I could make fixed blades for sure but I would need to learn a lot about machine work to make locks. I have a lot of skill with a basic bench grinder (from an artistic standpoint, I've made some cool metal sculptures with a grinder) so I think stock removal I could make some nice blades. If I had a 4 inch belt sander I would be doing regrinds myself. Maybe someday.

Yeah I'm not aware of any knife that was discoed that came back into regular production, which is really a shame. There are some legends in the discontinued file.Ignaz wrote:My dream knives were supposed to be sprint runs because to my knowledge discontinued Spydercos stay discontinued. realistic is quite relative termEvil D wrote:Some of you guys don't know the meaning of realistic lol..
BTW, I like the idea about more polished G10 & bolsters
