I do remember when the concept of a Stretch sprint (or was it the Endura?) was being kicked around, Sal stated that the white FRN was used for "art" models and steered the conversation towards some other color options; I inferred from his response that the use of white FRN was a one-off thing and probably wouldn't happen again....of course with Spyderco, never say "never!" :D

I saw the white dragonfly and it drew me into it's web, but the Delica was easier to find. I was still strictly a PE guy when I purchased this one as a user from another. He had already made it a franken-spydie so I took it a step further to really make the white FRN pop out.

That looks pretty cool. Would you mind listing what exactly you did to it?

The previous owner had already put the white FRN handles on a new FFG platform. He had scratched the blade fairly well so I used it as a platform to do a ferric bath (ferric chloride or ferric etchant) on the blade, clip and fastener heads. Then I stonewashed the above listed components in a planters peanut container (clear plastic with screw on lid) with peanut oil and ordinary white landscaping stones. I placed them in a towel and duct taped the bundle before placing it in my dryer for a 15 minute tumble. See my gallery for more pics.

What does stone-washing do to the knife's edge? You have to do a lot of sharpening after that? Or do you tape the edge or something (and does that work)?

The more I look at it, the more handsome I find it to be.

I would like to have a white knife. I have said I wish they would still have white FRN for dying possibilities. I still like this idea but also would like to have a knife that I like in a white FRN handle. I have thought about getting some white G-10 to make scales but haven't done it yet. I think it will happen some day.

The edge had some dings, but was already fairly dull before stonewashing. I re-profiled afterwards, but was going to do that anyway.

I would worry about the edge getting actually chipped. Couldn't that happen?

As for the RIT dyeing ... Please let me know what the process involved. And are those really color-fast? Do they stain fabric, say, if you sweat in the clothes that you're carrying them in?
