One more vote for an SE Rescue type blade be it a Rescue, Atlantic Salt, Assist or Cara Cara Rescue. My last one got stolen from my Jeep but I will surely purchase another for my next vehicle as my budget improves with my upcoming job.

Other than my edc (para2, yo2 or GB paired with a delica4) I have a Becker BK2 in the truck and an ESEE 4 in my get home bag.

At various times, I've kept a PE Native, PE Salt I, SE Salt I, SE Pacific Salt, SE Atlantic Salt, a Boker Cop Tool, and an Assist in the passenger compartment of my car. Back when I seemed to be harvesting more deer with my cars than with my guns, I kept a Buck fixed blade in my trunk. The Assist does have the added benefit of a glass breaker and is probably the safest to use around injured people. OTOH, it's expensive and virtually useless if you need to puncture, rather than slice into, something. That's not an issue for me, there's always going to be something with a point in at least one of my pockets, but it might be for some.

This is what I do. I always have a knife on my person when out anyway, but I do keep 2 Benchmade rescue hooks in the car as back up.

Kershaw Skyline in the car. I've polished the bead blast finish off of the blade so even with condensation in the winter rust is not an issue.

I have a Salt 1 SE, separate spring loaded window breaker and multitool in the car.
The Salt 1 comes in handy on the long road for in-car food prep, which my wife usually handle in the passenger seat, like coring apples etc. Because its rust-proof, you do not need to worry about cleaning it immediately. A quick wipe (or not) is fine until you reach the destination.
I contemplated an Assist, but decided against it because its just too focused, and not rust proof.

I have two: a CRKT M16-12ZER EMT that has a belt cutter, glass break, etc... Perfect knife for the truck I think. I also have a Leatherman Wave, another must have.

Late to the party...
Like everyone else, I have an orange Assist in my car center console and an old BM AFCK in the trunk kit (sorry, but I didnt want to put a Spydie back there and never get to see it...) along with a Leatherman.
Need to get another Assist for my wife's car.

Um, let's see. My truck currently carries the Breeden Rescue, Techno, Endura Bayou Shooter, Manix (Lightweight), Dyad Jr., Yojimbo II, Centofante Memory, Phoenix, Dodo, Tenacious, Squeak, Balance, Khukuri, Persian, Nilakka, Salt I, two Ladybug Salts (one PE and one SE), Centofante II, and an Emerson CQC-7. Also stow one smallish black thing that goes "bang" when/if I need it.

I keep a large khukri in the truck with about a 3/8" thick and 10" long blade. It is a great tool and will supplement whatever knife I am carrying well in an emergency.
