I wanted to resurrect this thread to drum up a little excitement for the Ulize. This is a great large Spydie that carries much more easily than one would expect. I find it to be a fantastic, solid and unique knife. Most would compare it to the Police3, but I find the handle contours to be far superior. The thickness of the two knives are identical, as is the edge length. The Ulize is a bit lighter and a bit smaller overall. To me it is noticeably more pocketable than the Police3, which is my only Spydie other than my Szabo that I feel is too big for me.

Hopefully more people will discover it, as it would be a shame for the Ulize to suffer a similar lifespan to the Large Lum and Superleaf.

Here are some photos of the Ulize with some well-known large Spydies:

I bought one about 3 months ago. It's too large for me to legally carry, but it's a very nice knife. I really like the look of the blade shape, it's comfortable in the hand, and thin in the pocket.

I got one a week or so ago. I love this thing.

It has a small dip of a finger guard near the pivot end of the handle which gives you access to the hole without needing a huge thumb ramp. It feels comfortable, not too heavy, opens a little easier than a Police 3.

I think the drawback is the street price. At $140ish, I doubt a lot of people who don't really love the look of it are going to give it a try.

I like the looks of the Ulize, but for a knife that big, I'm going to get a Millie, which has the added benefit of being exactly 4", the legal limit in some nearby places. Also, the Mille is cheaper and FFG.

That's all I needed this mornign was to look at this thread again and remember that I

I like the looks of this Ulize but I think Police is still more comfortable (at least for my hands). You can open both knives easily but the hole in Ulize is a little smaller, which is not always ideal. Police offers more grip options and when holding it firmly IMO it feels better, both in jimping area and index finger (not tried to stab anything yet).

I guess it would be great to have the best of both in one... "Pulize"???

Very elegant design, I'm tempted...

Looks like it would spread peanut butter exceptionally well, and I don't have a 'peanut butter spreader folder' yet.

You're actually right. The long recurve blade giving it that forward belly makes it easier to scoop out a good amount of peanut butter to spread. I think we can all use a good "tactical peanut butter knife" :D

I think with the thicker blade, the Tuff was designed to be a better peanut butter spreader. :)

I've noticed a disturbing number of threads start to lean towards peanut butter-related conversations.

Peanut butter is an important food group, even astronauts need it... :)

But they forgot to pack an Ulize it seems...

Great pictures everyone.

I think the Ulize is one of the best looking knives I own. I've had it for a few months and I've carried it quite a bit.

I do have a criticism. When gripping the knife when it's open, I often feel like my pinky is extended too far. That is, the downward curve on the bottom of the handle at the point where my pinky wraps around it, seems to be too much or too low. I wish I could straighten the tail end of the knife, just a little bit.

A coworker received a Police 3 on the same day I received my Ulize, so we compared them. I liked the looks of the Ulize better, but I liked the feel of the Police 3 more. It just seemed more natural and comfortable to grip. The coworker liked the feel of the Ulize better (and looks too). We thought about trading, but I'm not about to give up my Ulize. So I just put a Police 3 on my short list. :D

Another thing I've noticed is the feel of the Ulize with the clip. I've switched the position several times and can't make up my mind how I want it. I usually prefer tip up. But the clip seemed uncomfortable to me to grip, at the tail end. So I switched to tip down. Now, tip down works real well for me when I carry in my back pocket. But when I carry in my front pocket, the bottom end pokes out forward against the front of my pocket due to the extreme curvature of the handle. It really prints and causes a bulge in the front of my pocket. I know... Don't laugh. Basically, I find it more comfortable to grip in a tip down clip configuration. But it sits in the pocket more comfortably in a tip up configuration.

Overall, this is a beautiful knife. If you're on the fence, get one.
