Deep carry of any locking folder is illegal (you will be in trouble if you're caught). Pepperspray is illegal to carry.

Those are facts, how you recognize them is up to you. Manhattan resident for 6+ years unfortunately.
Wow, I did know the fact on the folders and fixed blade. The pepper spray law is shocking though. I was just guessing it was legal :( .

All the more reason to buy a Ronin or Street Beat if spending much time in NY I guess. Go figure that logic...

Yeah it's pretty weak. I wanted my fiancee to have it in her purse for her commute home at night but after looking into it I found out it's illegal.

The Mastiff: What I meant to say is that you most likely can get away with carrying whatever you want IN your pocket (no clip showing) and you should be fine as long as you don't pull it out or get caught and searched doing some other illegal activity. However just because you can get away with it doesn't mean it's legal. It's pretty ridiculous to be able to carry a fixed blade concealed with a 4" blade but you can't carry a dragonfly. Oh, and if you get stopped and they find a fixed blade on you it's up to their discretion as to whether or not you were carrying it for unlawful reasons and it's deemed a weapon. AKA STAY AWAY FROM NYC EVERYONE lol.

NYC cops are being told that any blade is notok to carry. If you are even caught with a SAK, you may not get a serious summons, but it will be taken away. You really can't carry anything. I would never carry a spyderco because it will be taken away. My recommendation is not to carry any knife at any time in NYC, if you MUST take a SAK. It is really bad in NYC regarding knife carry, don't do it.

If the worst that could happen is having the knife confiscated I would take a chance and carry a small slipit. A Squeak or Tern. I'd just want to be certain that I wouldn't end up on Riker's Island.

Like most acronyms there are probably multiple meanings, but when used by knife folks SAK = Swiss Army Knife and is sometimes used as shorthand for any totally benign looking non-locking "traditional" folder.
