Spyderco has 3 VG10 fixed blades in the works as far as I know. All just under 3" blades with FRN sheaths and removable scales. They did sell the Woodcraft mule w/o the sheath and scales as recommended so having such a model in the product line (completed) makes sense to me.

The only thing is that the Mule (Project) is not a kit knife. It's a empirical test bed for blade steels. The difference has caused some real moaning in the past when re-heat treating was called for or people received knives with scuffs.

I could be interesting if each steel was offered in two formats, the current one and the previously released woodcraft mule style.

"I would like it if..." is one way of looking at the mule team project.

Another way to look at the project is that it's mostly a drain on time, and production and administrative resources for Spyderco. They aren't really marking up these things much at all. They could use the time much more lucratively producing product that has a better markup and goes through regular channels instead of catering to knife knuts, Aficionado types and steel junkies who are in the minority ( that's us. :) )

I'm actually amazed every time another mule is released and am grateful there are people like Sal who have a true passion and willingness to share their knowledge and resources with us with little more than goodwill and a fair share of complaints as a direct return.

While I'm one of the "I would like it if.." people in this thread, I am very happy with the Mule team project the way it is. I think this is evidenced by the fact that I've bought 5 Mule team blades. My suggestion wasn't a complaint about the current way the Mule team project is run, but rather a vote for a standard kit blade if that were something Spyderco would consider pursuing that in addition to the Mule team project.
