Something sleeker than the balyo I didn't like using with the one I had as a pen but it was fun to play with.

Lol thats only because one was used to Hi-Jack a plane. When we worked at the airport last year all our tools had to be in locked boxes or in hand, even land side, couldn't even wear a tool belt!

I think a Baliyo, Bic disposable, or even a wood No 2 would work fine. You're just isolating force on a point instead of spreading it over a soft hand.

That said, there are few times I wouldn't just pop someone instead. You have way more concussive force and no chance of a weapon charge.

I would buy a Spyderco pen because the Baliyo for me seems more toy than ergonomic and elegant writing tool.

What can one do with a tactical pen please?

If you want a inexpensive tactical pen go buy a Zebra F-701 and a F-402. Remove the click button from the 402, and install it on the 701. Install a Fisher space pen refill. You will have to open the hole up in the Tip insert for the Fisher refill to work. Presto chango all Stainless steel "Tacticool" pen with a nice weight and writes well for not a lot of dough. It also looks fairly classy.

For what some of these tactical pens sell for, I'd rather just spend the same money on a really nice regular pen and not a lump of titanium with a fisher insert inside.

I have a Hinderer Investigator Pen in the mail coming to my home as I type this. I like the looks of it but I doubt I'll ever use it in a defensive situation. If Spyderco ever came out with one I would probably get it. I would think theirs wouldn't be so much tactical looking but more functional and an interesting item to behold. Also it would have to be able to use the Fisher inserts. Nothing more frustrating that trying to write in sub-zero weather with a regular pen.

I do like the idea of a pen that I can use as a dart or vice versa. My main worry is that if I get a tactical pen, it would mean less work for my Spydies. Sounds silly when I am reading this but it's the truth.

Fisher refills write great and have other benefits besides the all-angle/0 gravity writing. They don't smear easily and can write on wet materials pretty well. Ink flow is constant mixing properties of a gel pen with a ball-point.

I'm all for comfort and even a robust "solid feeling" pen. No need to watch someone penetrate a car hood with it; 1 + 1 generally equals 2 so no video is necessary.

A dart? What work would a pen accomplishment just as well as a knife besides writing? No intent to argue, just curious on clarification.

My first thought as well! The hole has to be up near the front where you put your thumb when writing. You know, right next to the choil.

I can see the marketing angle already: "The Spyderpen. For when you need something mightier than a sword."

You would have to have really weak hands for the American-made baliyo to break when used as a striking implement on a human. It is a really nice fist pack with a sufficient pointy on the bottom to do damage.
