None of the other components of the knives made in China are "top shelf", so I wouldn't expect the blade coating to be that way either. Beyond that, even the best of coatings, like DLC, only limit the areas where rust can start and, once started, rust can then creep under them. Their main function is light discipline, not protection from rust.
