Acids are extremely corrosive aren't they???
I'm not a chemist so therefore let it be known that I know enough to be very dangerous in that arena :DSolidState wrote:A nitric acid bath is how I get them perfectly white again.
But I do know that many acids have severe corrosive effects on many materials. And what concerns me about this "nitric acid" bath that you give you stones I'm wondering if you are slowly eating your stones away and possibly changing the grit in them  ??
Now most of the cleansers listed do have some type of mild acid in them and the Ajax & Comet work on chlorine bleach bases along with other chemicals & abrasives which are somewhat different than ZUD And BKF. BKF has listed "oxalic acid" as one of it's main ingredients. However I contacted the folks at BKF and told them I was worried about it eating into my ceramic stones and they assured me that it won't eat away anything ceramic at all. But I'm not sure about this "nitric acid"
Brother if you have a background in chemistry or the extensive use of industrial chemicals let us know because I'm always looking for an easier way to clean my Spyderco ceramic stones and other sharpening stones as well :)
