I have played around with the idea.
You grind the blade STUPID thin then sharpen it with a zero edge. Then you are left with a locking razor which is awkward in use because most who straight shave use a handle that has a 90 degree positive angle to the blade. This requires removal of the lock bar and spring on a midlock. Easy enough to do...and I've done it...but then the kick has nothing to park against in the closed position and your edge 'parks' or the back spacer...which is not good.
I can post photos later if you like.

and for the knives moded to be "razors" they dont have the spine thickness to be used as a sharpening guide and i could almost bet you that you are not getttig the max sharpness even off a sharpmaker
the hole could be at the tang end no problem but it would be too small to use as an opening device
that said also to help with travel it should have a semi lock in the closed but not in te open as all shavers have a slightly different grip and style of shave

Agreed. Moded knives do not have a spine that guides...thus it is a 'high level' mod and use of a knife.
I would not trust my delicate mug (I am a pampered wuss) to a sharpmaker even with the ultra fines. I use a strop and a very high polish to protect this gift

I knew I wouldn't be the only one interested in having one
The breeden rescue though not a straight razor looks awesome and is on my to get list.
I think Butch had some very nice work and would make a great designing partner in a collaborative effort in what I'd like to see in a spyderco effort on the straight razor.

Course that was before I got around to getting a straight. Been straight shaving since October of last year now.
Butch makes some nice looking stuff, and then there's that guy from Michigan who had a knife made by Spyderco.
One thing I learned about straight shaving is that, "As opposed to a knife (where a 2000 grit is considered fine), 2000 grit is considered coarse when sharpening a straight."
Of course if Spyderco decide to make a straight, I'm sure it would be top quality.
Based on my understanding of the current market, a sure seller would be something around 8/8" to 10/8" with a 1/4" to 5/16" spine. People are going gaga over the meat cleavers in the straight world right now.
