The C01 "Worker" model was introduced in Octoberr of 1981 at the Texas State Fair in Dallas.

Wow. 1981! That's my high school graduation year. Thanks for pointing that out christopher as I'd almost forgotten that part of my question. And thanks again Sal for confirming it.

1981!! Wow. Taking a bit of a chance patenting the concept after introduction eh? Then again, getting a patent approved does take an insane amount of time. 1981, kudos to you Sal for your taking the big step. And thanks.

Not an expert on patent law, but believe an invention is protected from the day the patent application is accepted for filing. Which is why you see products on the market stamped "patent pending".

The patent date, on the other hand, reflects the date the patent is issued.
