Dang, that is beautiful Jazz! Nicely done. What size carbide bit did you use to engrave? I might like to try this myself...

Wow, that is one heck of a nice first attempt. Very nice and tasteful design.

:o Thank you all for the awesome compliments. I've carved a couple pendants in SS before, plus lots of practice on rocks, so it's a first on a knife - I was really scared I'd wreck it.

ChapmanPreferred - I've never taken pics of my rocks, but I will soon. I have a few to do and I'll post them. My wife has some nice ones so I'll show them, too.

Cosmo 7809 - I have a SS D4, but I'm thinking something simple for it IF I even do it. More just stippling and some gripping surfaces somewhere. I don't know. I have those 2 Crickets too... aaaahhhh! :p

Simsmac - I used the smallest round tip for the stippling (wore out 2 of them) and the straight, raspy-looking ones for the lines and carving the leaves (wore out 2 and a half of them). The leaf lines and initials were done with a vibrating engraver (like for initialing tools, etc.). Then, 400, 600, and 1500 grit sandpaper and polished with compound on a felt wheel and my Dremel.

- best wishes, Jazz.

Are those diamond bits or HC/vanadium/tungsten, or what? I have been working with diamond tipped bits on some stone I am working on but have yet to try stainless steel.

That is really nice work.

There is another guy on here that does an amazing job with engraving. I asked him why his pictures looked like the knife was black, he said it was because he used a black backdrop to photograph the knife. :)

They're carbide of some sort - in the Dremel case they lock up. I use diamond on rock.

Yeah, I'd definitely commission some work from him if he were still doing work.
