i really like my g10 knives like chinooks and yojimbos but....i always find the frn knives in the pocket. i am also partial to hawkbills so the spyderhawk and tasman salt get lots of pocket time. one of those two coupled with a sak and i am ready for most all cutting chores. what i like about frn/h1 is that i don't have to worry since they are rugged and rust free.

For me the material is not a big factor. I don't like to carry a $100+ knife without a certain need (loss risk) otherwise I choose them based on fit to my hand. Now blade material is another story. I just don't do the cheaper steels (9Cr13, etc) at all.

:spyder: I've come to the point I love 'em all because of the differant handle materiels on various missionary spydies I've gifted to NKP to further the cause of always having a knife in one's pocket. :spyder:

I like the ergonomics on my military a little better than my Endura but not because of the handle material. I just like the way the size and shape fits my hand better.

You have no idea! I have been bitten by the bug HARD!
Starting at the top...
2 Enduras (G10 and FRN), 2 Delicas (same), 3 Stretches (2 CF and 1 FRN), 4 Caly 3's (2 G10, 2 CF), 2 Sage 1's, 2 Michael Walker Sprint Run's, 1 G10 Military, 1 Gayle Bradley, 1 G10 Dragonfly and waiting for the Manix in Carpenter XHP. Absolutely determined to acquire a Police G10, and another Military, Gayle Bradley and G10 Dragonfly. Out of the newer moldels I'm on tenterhooks to get my hands on the Caly 3.5 and Paramilitary.
And yes, I get multiples to keep one "new in the box".
Used to be the same with other company's product lines but for now it's all Spydermania. I was sort of out of the knife thing for some years. Too many knives and it just got boring. This very year, on EDCF I was inveigled into the Caly 3. It was love at first sight. Other models followed and here I am.
Many thanks to go to those who kept urging this stubborn old fossil to try out Spyderco. And of course Spyderco for making my hobby "fun" again!

Hi Bear,

Thanx for the interest and support. Also appreciate the thread, but as you can see by the many poiints of view, one knife does not fit all.

I'm easy. I like all of the materials and all for different reasons. Today I carried a ZDP FRN Stretch.

Our customers also like the many options. Since we work for you, we will make the many options.

Thank you sir. May I humbly suggest you do what you do very well? To your point, it's exactly why the enjoyment comes from trying different models out. Perfection is an ideal and perhaps one day....But really I haven't had so much fun in years. I confess I even stood in front of mirror trying various "folder opening" moves I'd seen on youtube. :D Haven't done that sort of thing since I got a toy six shooter complete with belt/holster when I was 6! ;) Fun!

Can't stand FRN. Feels like cheap plastic junk. I'm not trying to offend anyone. But I'll take G10 or CF or even bare Titanium over FRN any day.

I like all the materials, and have all except Micarta. My Tasman gets the most use and looks great...

Image

The G10 is tough, grippy, and feels great...

Image

Carbon fiber is classy, but tough...

Image

Stainless is okay on the little guys and looks great...

Image

And titanium looks great and is tough and lighter than steel...

Image

Sorry, I got a little picture happy there :o

- best wishes, Jazz.

I carry some of each: G10, CF, FRN, SS...that solves the issue for me. Up until I landed my first Military, I also shy'd away from anything but FRN. Now I'm not as picky for my users.

Jazz you devil! I'm trying desperately to not get involved with the, "wee, tiny" end of the Spyderco lineup!
I must stand FIRM! Nothing below the Dragonfly G10/VG10 in Foliage Green.
In Form and Factor! ;)

"Form and Factor" are very important, but in the marketplace, "Price" often rears its head. ;)

Not a huge FRN fan. Have several, but they don't get carried much.
Just prefer CF, Micarta or G-10.
I do beat on FRN more than the others though.
In a "Rodney Dangerfield" type of way..........

Seldom carry under 3" blades either. But they are fun to collect!
And have more than my share.........

Hence my choice for FRN. There is something to be said in getting a FINE folder at a moderate price. And then using the **** out of it without worrying if it's potential value as a "collector" may be degraded. (I even suppose since the "****" is used out of it, it might even be "blessed"? ) Long may Endura/Delica be carried on! (EDIT) And the Stretch!
(By the way, FRN, in my experience loses nothing in comparison for utility with it's "other" handled models.)
FRN handled Caly 3 anyone? Screw together construction for FRN Caly 3 would be mandatory IMHO.

FRN has really grown on me over the years. I just ordered a Endura, Delica, and Ladybug in purple frn. I want to buy some of the other new colors as well...

FRN handled SAGE !!!!

Right behind the Caly 3 in FRN, I would hope for a Sage in FRN. Just a humble proposition. Nested linerlock with screw together construction. I BETCHA they'd both sell!
EDIT Couldn't care less if was linerlock or backlock. Either would be fine!
