Looking at pictures of the production Spec-ops sheaths there seem to be some differences.
-snap on knife retention strap.
-shape of the rigid poly insert that surrounds the blade.

It fits and is retained well by the sheath - Some rattle though.

Wow thanks. That's better than i thought. As I said, it's a fantastic blade and probably amazing in hand as most Spydies are. :)

I've been looking (i.e. drooling) at the Rock Salt at that retailer for a while, but have not yet been able to convince myself that I 'need' this $100 knife. However, the Warrior at the same retailer is now causing me to mentally 'double-down' for a $200 knife, and it's driving me crazy! I'm not a rancher like westfork, so my justification for the Warrior is even tougher. My brother is no longer going to be deploy to the Sandbox, so I can't say it's for him... or could I? :)

My wife rolled her eyes when I showed her my new Meerkat last night, stating that one knife should be enough (I don't think she's seen my signature .) I don't want to even imagine her response if she sees me with the Warrior.

Decisions, decisions, decisions...

I'm more of a reader than a poster but I had to contribute to this thread. I just purchased both the Warrior and the Rock Salt within the last 3 weeks and I strongly agree that they are both awesome knives.

My only quibble would be with the Spec-plus sheath. I know it's well made and very practical for some situations. However as a city/sub-urban boy I would prefer a Boltaren sheath with a G-clip as this would permit very discrete inside-the-waistband carry. I've worn the Rock Salt in this manner while walking my dog and it works well, although shorter individuals might prefer to wear the sheath on the outside of the pants.

The shorter Warrior would be perfect for inside the waistband carry! I wonder if Spyderco will ever make a Boltaren sheath for this knife? I know Sog offers sheaths for some of their knives which can be purchased as a stand alone item.

We probably won't for this knife as the military market prefers the current sheath,

There are a few custom sheath makers that could make one for your current model.

Bob Taylor did have a smaller design that we're looking at. It has a Boltaron sheath.

I've got a long history with sheaths for the Warrior series, just got a couple of the Spydercos, and will be working up one or two types as soon as I slow down enough to play for myself. In the middle of some consecutive shows with travel requirements,and the rest of my time right now is dealing with deploying personnel and the ever present backlog.

Thank-you HaroldB...but I had assumed that Mr. Glesser was talking about a "smaller" version of the same knife...a "Warrior JR." if you will. When Sal says something like that, it is sometimes a clue to a knife design that is being considered for production. I may have read too much into it, but I have seen pictures of what looked like cute little baby Warriors. :eek:

Not that Sal was asking, :o but I thought I'd take the opportunity to to voice my support for the continued use of H1 steel. :)
