For me, it would have to be a Stretch II, as long as the FFG could be kept(difficult to do) and if it has liners and Bi-Directional FRN I'd be all over it, yellow FRN maybe?

I'm assuming the H1 steel is the best you can get in corosion resistance. What is it like in other respects? Holding and edge, chip resistance, breaking, etc.? Sounds like a great steel.

How does it compare to the s90v in corosion resistance, edge, and other areas?

It's hard to get a handle on all these steels. I think Spyderco has picked a reasonable mount of variety to make it possible to understand them all with enough time and research. At the moment I'm very drawn to to s30v, s90v, d2, m4 (but I think this one does have corosion issues - if I read it correctly) and maybe the H1. This exotic steel stuff is addictive!

H1 is a "work-hardening" steel meaning that the more you use it the longer the edge will hold. I've heard that it "bends" before it chips, and H1 will NEVER rust no matter the weather, humidity, etc... All around its an excellent steel and I suggest you try some soon.

That rescue knife is interesting and might work wel for EMS / marine types, but it's not something I'd EDC myself.

I think H1 would be wonderful for an EDC fixed blade like the Swick, Mule, Street Beat or similar. I love my Aqua Salt but it's just a bit more than I like to carry for an EDC.

-It's rust proof. No rust whatsoever.
-Edge holding for PE is similar to VG10. I'd say it loses a hair shaving edge a bit quicker than VG10, but past that point they're very similar in how long they hold a usable edge. SE H1 holds an edge similar to S30V PE knives, do not have any SE S30V to compare the two with.
-Toughness. The toughest steel I've used that's a stainless. I've cut many things that I know would of bent or chipped other steels, and the H1 took it. This is one of the big selling points for me.

...All great ideas for runs in H1, and all knives I would purchase, most of them even in pairs.

However, if Mr. Glesser would let me choose -JUST 1- Spyderco to H1-ify...

It would be the WARREN THOMAS KARAMBIT. I think it could have not only MBC, but also work and marine applications. Plus it's a great tool even for people who are not "into" karambits. I know it would never happen though... :rolleyes:

I'd like to see a H1 dragonfly more than anything.The FRN molds they have right now would be a perfect platform to use. Although I've heard its difficult to FFG H1 steel, I'd settle for a sabre grind if need be. While I'd like to see an H1 para (or other similar models) I think it would be impractical. For those models you would have to have not only a rustproof clip, you would need all rustproof hardware, ie, liners, torx screws, clip screws, lanyard tube, ect. What would be the point of having a rustproof blade when the rest of your knife is rusting away? I'm sure that rustproof hardware would raise the price quite a bit too. So I think that H1 knives would be better suited to the models that have pinned construction like the native , dragonfly, ect.

the original dragonflies were saber or hollow ground... not sure which... i want to say hollow?

i'd certainly be first in line for an H1 dragonfly! :D

+1 on this. I would buy one. I love my Manix even though I think the S30V is sweet I would love to see some H1 liners on it to go along with an H1 blade.

I would also be in line for a Native with H1 blade in liners. The liners just add the right amount of weight for me on all my knives. Maybe an H1 Para too. I know it is far hetched but my Para is perfect fit for me. I would love to see it get a new look in blade steel.

i wonder just HOW expensive one of those hugely expensive H1 manixes would be? is there any way of estimating? If it's big-manix sized, I feel like it's something I wouldn't have any trouble paying up to $250 (street price) for... could it be done within a $400 MSRP?

I guess all we can do is keep buying more H1 blades, keep trying to get other folks into this steel, and hope that boosted sales sends a message that more H1 designs are needed! :D

the new FRN ukpk looks like it could be a candidate for H1. however, i assume it has steel liners and that would be the hard part if i had to guess.

I would love a Manix or Military in H-1. The only real problem I feel is that keeping the FFG Blades would be too difficult. IIRC, it would be too difficult to have that many blades ground. Also those are both Golden, USA made models and H-1 is a Japanese steel. A similar style of blade though would be great. A H-1 blade styled like the Military, but keep the Hollow Grind and yellow G-10 would be awesome, Salish Sea Salt? (from Sequimites thread)

what about using something like the deep hollow grind on the rock salt? i love the way that knife is ground!

I don't have the Rock Salt but, I would take any grind as long as a G-10 H-1 knife was made.
