I am not a collector per se, but I spoke up for the collectors and speculators when the orange Military unexpectedly went from 600 to 1200 pieces. I was sorry for the tone of a few of those posts, but some allowance is warranted when one is surprised and dissappointed and immediately types out a reaction. I think we had some of the same overreaction in this case.

Both aesthetic and investment collectors are welcome members of the Spyderco customer base but, without rehashing my prior arguments, I think the forum knives are completely different because they are keepsakes and the number produced was an effort to match the perceived demand. The limited number was not cited in order to enhance their value, but to warn forumites to get their money ready and to be prompt with their orders.

That said, if more folks had believed the knives would sell out in 7 hours and got their orders in more quickly, than they would have sold out in 3 hours and just as many would have missed the boat.

So I don't see why anyone would have a legitimate problem with another run.

I also don't see that Spyderco has any obligation to do another run. Someone will always regret missing out no matter how many are produced.

What I really hope that Spyderco does do is to produce a 2010 forum knife so that those who wish a souvenir will get one, albeit in 12 months.

I'm pretty sure the Spyderco crew did get the point of this discussion by now.

Now, the only thing that's left to do is wait and see. They will decide one way or another. I think there is a reason why no Spyderco official chimed in here lately. Think about it.

As mentioned, it was meant to be a "thank you" to us. Let's leave it like that and not stir the pot again and again. It kind of devalues the whole idea, which isn't good if we want another Forum knife next year.

I understand all of you, but this is just my opinion.

It might be worth Spyderco doing a FFG Native in racing green in a 300 pc run and just number the blade 1 to 300.
It would let those that missed the purple have a chance at one and still be a sell out.Maybe limit the orders to one per order the first day and take the limit off the second day.

I missed out on a forum knife because I don't have a rooster....

I would like to end up with something similar but not the same so as to not upset the balance.

So to make it fair I think Sal should make a midnight blue, S90V, FFG Native that will only ship to people that missed out. What do you all think......?? :D

For a future forum knife it would be good to have a pre-order system, and for example limited to maximum 2 knives per person. Then make exactly the number pre-ordered.
Anyway, I was lucky with the time difference with Europe that I was able to order it in a practical time window, and also simply tha tI wasn't on a business trip with more cumbersome internet access.

To make it worth it I would think it would have to stay s30v and be in a FRN color they have used in the past.

Seems to me the biggest problem was the popular color, grind, model combination. It was just too popular.

People get concert tickets when they will sell out in 15 minutes. Some people sit in line for hours before the place opens. I never bought a Forum Native but was periodically looking at the updates through the day. I actually talked myself out of the buy at least 3 times because of various other blades I bought this year.

I don't know that this would even be a discussion if the knife was a $100 model or it was something a bit more obscure (eg: Rock Lobster Forum Knife, etc). It would have taken a few weeks instead of only 1 day. As some mentioned with the verbal beating Spyderco took for making the second run of orange military's revisiting the topic seems improbable.

On a positive note, you can pick up a H1 Spyderhawk still for the same price as the Native. It's friggin unreal!

The problem, though, is that the blade of the forum natives says they're limited to 300 pieces.

I don't think spyderco predicted any of this... at all. I'm really happy that they sold all the knives and aren't left with any, and made some money. And I'm really happy some forumites got something special. Hopefully, this will only pave the way to more good things, and special releases. :D

True.
Try to get a Busse Combat LE.
I was waiting for the SFNO LE to come up back in Dec 08.I had my emails in 2 min after the go came up and got number 278 of 300.

I missed out on the ZDP189 Lum Chinesse Folder and the CF Manix 2. Can Spyderco do another run of those to?

I didn't get one...and I don't think they should do another run of the same thing. Hurry up with the Native IV FRN :) !

I would appreciate another run of this forum knife and forum members who puchased for the pupose of speculation kind of miss the point. Maybe I've got the whole thing wrong but the forum knives aren't produced to make money for Spyderco. The runs are too small and prices for such a limited run not high enough to make it worthwhile except as gesture to the loyal members who help Spyderco by providing feedback. Forum knives are to make nice with us and make us feel special. Maybe the point of the forum knives are to allow the quickest to profit but I doubt it.

How about a second run with a pre-order system? That would allow Spyderco to produce an appropriate run with limited risk to Spyderco. The time and effort for such a small company probably precludes such an offering.

How about another run with the forum knife marked with the 'seconds' blade nick. That would differentiate the runs and preserve the exclusivity of the first run. As a user I could care less as long as the 'nick' did not affect usability or useful life of the blade.

Long post but I regret not getting one of these knives.

I expect to see a production model down the road in another color but I don't have a purple Spyderco and FFG rules.

I would still like to see a FFG Native with a spear point addition but that would be another animal.

I vote for another run in some form.

Anyone up to setting up a poll?

Edit: I could have gotten one of these but did not expect them to sell out within the first day. My bad but if I did manage buy a couple that would just have cut out someone else.

Its over.... As I said in my other post

" I understand everyones point of view here... But you also have to say that only 300 of them were made and NOT everyone who wanted one will get one its as simple as that... And yes maybe if some people did not buy an extra 2 or 3(for their cousins daughters aunt who is only 6) it would have made members who were not able to score one have more of a chance....I got home late last night too where they were sold out. But Monday night I copied down the phone #, discount code and all that good stuff so if I felt for what ever reason I could not make it home in time atleast I can call it in. And I did(took about 5 minutes).

I do however think it should have been limited to one per person for say 24 hours then if still some remaining how ever many you want.

But you know what, we dont have ANY reason to fault spyderco, I do not see any other knife brand go out of their way for customers like they do. Where can you post a question and get an answer from the heads of the company within a few hours....? Who continues to make a forum knife each year? Who actually wants the customers opinions?

Spyderco you did a fine job once again, and the people that want the knife well... As my dad says, you snooze you loose(might sound harsh but hey... thats reality). But I do wish that either spyderco makes more of these(will defeat the whole "limited" thing) or you are able to find them on the secondary market. )"

I am not asking for a second run.

However, I'm out of town one week, to my parent's, and that's the week the forum knife becomes available. And yes, there is no internet at my parent's, ****, I don't even get cell phone coverage.

Just goes to show, sometimes dumb luck prevents us from doing the things we love. Even if that is spending money.

(also, seven hours? that seems very quick, even for 300 knives)

It went live (available to buy) at 10 AM and the last one sold between 6:01 and 6:05 PM, so just a whisker over 8 hours actually.

Just like the USN we are going to give away a free one for those who didn't have the chance to buy one.

Ted wrote:I don't want to sound harsh here, but I think that everybody who truly wanted one, could have gotten one. I for example checked the forums regularly to see when it would go on-line. It was announced a week in advance. They were available for about 7 hours. Luckily for me the sale was at 18:00 local time so it didn't interfere with work. If I would have known that I wouldn't be able to be on-line or able to make a phone call, I would have asked my wife, or a good friend. Otherwise I would have contacted one of the more regular forum members here (go to member-list, and sort on # of posts) to see if they could help me out. I'm certain that a lot of members here would have helped anyone with a plausable story and who made sure he was credible. I would have, and have done so in the past, all on good faith.

If you gambled on whether they would be available the next day or after work hours, then things, surprisingly to everybody, turned out different. That's a risk of gambling. IMHO, that doesn't justify another batch. This one is special, not only the model but also the story behind it, and it needs to stay special.

For what it's worth, I already forwarded my 'spare' to someone who missed out.

Now I'll go hiding under my desk...

Ted
Guess again, Dude...I was in a security package/bubble...No blackberries, laptops.

They do need to do a better job of this. A list you can add your name to in advance to secure your purchase, and a limit of one, or two to keep the opportunists from buying a bunch to re-sell.

The way this went down was very upsetting for me personally, and I am sure countless others who support the company.

Anyway from a 21 year customer...thanks for nothing.
