Having since received my new Sage and so inspired by the quality of the CF, why not shoot the moon here and go for a Purple/black CF weave? Might as well make this a hawkbill for the ages.

Benchmade has a layered G10 handle with blue and black i think looks good. maybe a deep DEEP purple and black wouldnt be so bad?

The knife concept sounds good to me, but I 'm not a purple kind of guy. On the other hand, the color would not stop me from buying this knife either. I'm glad you're talking G10 as CF gets expensive, and to me it's not enough of an upgrade for me to pay for.Joe

I'm on the fence with this one, I'm really, honestly not sure.

That said, this guy:

Can most certainly make purple G10, and put some patterns in it if you so desire, so perhaps that might be an option if this doesn't happen? Real G10, real purple, to your exact specs. :D

If nothing else it truly could be a great idenitifier for a certain variation i.e. fully serrated, combo edge, double edged, ect, ect,. Or it could be a great novelty, collectible attribute for certain collector series.

Now I realize that no everyone likes that color or even likes the idea of doing a knife handle with any radical color. But try to consider the idea behind it.

But we need to realize what Agent Starling is trying to convey to us ( or at least I think that's the case) is that Spyderco is not your typical hardware store knife company ( Thank GOD). And Spyderco is no stranger to unorthadox ideas, unusual innovations and they just flat out do a lot of things different and this would just fall right in place. Not to mention separating them from your run of the milll cutlery producers even more than they are.

I had some Benchmade collectibles that were Purple when I still collected their stuff and I must say they made a great conversation piece. Not to mention they would be readily identifiable and acrued good collector value as time went on.

I think it's a cool idea myself and I hope more Spyderville citizens think so as well. And for those of you who don't like it then tell us what you would do instead :)

Of course I would like to see a dark purple hawkbill.

Sal stated in the original hawkbill thread that we wouldn't see a purple. I would not be disappointed in the least if he ever changes that position.

Not the norm but......

Let's hope this wheel get so squeaky that it has to have oil>> in other words if maybe enough people can make a case for it then may it will at least cause the Great Spyder Factory to take a second look the idea.

Because sometimes different colors or styles can be great trend setters and superb identifiers.

I think this idea of "Shenmue728" is really worth considering. A multi-layer G-10. Or even maybe with titanium or CF inserts?

Or maybe a black G-10 with some type of purple insert.

time to start brainstorming. Time is of the essence.

I've been holding up my hand for a dark royal purple G10 handled Spydie for two or three years. I'd rather it be a Police Knife, but ... I guess ... I'd settle for doing it with this model. :)

BTW, Welcome back JD ..! I'm not around as much as I used to be either, but I still enjoy catching up from time to time.

Purple vs. Purple & Black

Lots of good ideas here...and don't get me wrong, I think the combination of purple and black together is way stunning, I can even be found dressing in those two colors not too infrequently....but I'd like to focus on a monochromatic hawkbill...

Dark purple G10 scales! :D

After that, maybe a purple and black variation of it...

But the new hawkbill deserves purple, just purple,,,so many have wanted it for so long...years in fact...I believe its time has come, its era has dawned... :spyder:

EDITED TO ADD: as of this writing fully 50% of those who voted in this poll have given an unqualified YEAH!! to the Purple scales proposition!!! Way to go Spyderville!!

EDITED AGAIN TO ADD: If this were a presidential election and we got 51% of the vote everyone would be proclaiming it a Landslide!!

Agent Starling

I'm always pleased with purple. It's the right answer to so many questions.

model/variation identifier

As I said earlier I think a great "test project" to see if G-10 Purple handle scales would be a winner would be to put them on a variation of an existing model>> Yes The Superhawk is the one I have in mind because frankly I think it would be the best G-10 candidate at this time. With more and more of the Spyder Brethren ( sisters too :D ) wanting a fully and/or partially serrated version of the Superhawk it would only make good marketing sense to differentiate it just exactly like they did with the Spyderhawk i.e. black handle for serrated, blue handle for plain edge.

Not only did that add collector interest to the Spyderhawk but it also made it easy to identify the 2 different blade variations.

Or here is another possibility that would be an excellent trial balloon if you will >> They could take and reintroduce a sprint run of the Spyder Hawk in a collector's edition, combo edge and make the handle a purple FRN and then just see how that goes over.
