MY question though is..

which came first the green or blue Lums ?
Green one is the original. Then came the blue. The reason for the Variant designator on the PE is merely that there also was a SE, which would be main model. Blue one will then be variant again.

Green is the first one.

I have the same QC problems on the Lum I received today. It is going back to the dealer.

Mine came in with most of the issues already noted, except the lock engagement problem. It wasn't even razor sharp. I was so upset that I sharpened it, put it in my pocket and took it to work. I'm happy to report that the uneven Almite coating, scuffed backspacer and gritty action did not interfere with the knife's cutting ability in the least. It is a nice medium sized knife, but frankly I don't see what the big deal is about the model. I'm certainly glad I never shelled out collector money for an original.

P.S. I apologize to all of you who were or will soon be offended by my previous post. I have some impulse control issues. Although I know I shouldn't even open theads like this, I just can't resist. :o

That is just so atypical for a Spyderco. Is this the same factory that made the old ones?

I agree, I have been buying Spyderco knives since 1993 and have never returned one due to poor production problems until now. On a positive note the new Police 3 I received last month is awesome.

Guess what? They are made by people. People aren't perfect. Sometimes the edge isn't perfect, even on a Spyderco. At least I didn't have to get rid of a stubborn burr like I did on my first ZDP Delica. It's a production knife, not a hand-fitted, hand-finished, sole-authorship original custom.

I just want to cheer up people, who are thinking to buy them. I was lucky to buy two of them: both are flawless. My friend and coworker Henry1960 bought a couple with no any issues.
This knife is up to my expectations. I was waiting for more than two years and not disappointed at all. It is on the very top of my favorites, just only a notch below Persians. :) (thank you again, Mr.Schempp)

This one is playing out a bit odd.........
I was hyped up! Got in/paid in full, was told I had a 1st run knife then nothing....
Got in on 2 other lists as the price dropped........
Then the QC issues, etc came up.........
From the scuttle butt online it sounds like the main run, remaining 1300 or whatever should ship in the next couple weeks.
Canceled the 1st pre-paid June /July order, am still on 2 lists.
From the way this one is rolling out I would not be surprised if some great deals on this one are in the near future.................

I know this is a rarity, but does Spyderco repair minor cosmetic flaws on imported knifes?

Are these possible QC issues holding back the main shipment?

Just curious.

Just thoght i put my two cents in and like Roman said we are very happy with The Bob Lum ZDP-189, Flaw Less Knife that Sal & Spidie produced. I am sorry that some of you have had small promblems with this great new addition of spyderco Bob LUM, but i`m confident with past and the good repitition of spyderco they will solve any promblems that you have with this new addition.I personally list this knife on my top five myself and hope you all enjoy this Lum as much as i do and your promblems get solved. :spyder:

I just found this thread and have to agree with those that are dissapointed. You would think that a remake of one of the most venerable of all :spyder: models would be done with more care. The fit and finish is not what I've been accustomed to from :spyder: s in this price range. A major disappointment to me personally. Hopefully this is not the last Lum produced by :spyder: and hopefully if there is another one it would be executed more carefully than this. :(

Any News?

Anything new on the bulk of the run?
Am on 3 lists....... Am #1 on one of them.
Any idea how many are already out? How many shipped in the initial run?

Thanks
