I too think that is pretty neat knife. $96 looks like a dang good price.

AFAIK older Al Mars were made by G. Sakai and the actual production is mainly or maybe entirely made by Moki. So knowing Moki's quality I wouldn't be afraid of the newest Al Mars. (I have only older Al Mars but have some Moki made Spydies.)

Just ordered one at $96 from thebladeshop.com, to be shipped directly to the sheath-maker. The gentleman at thebladeshop was great to talk to: so far, I can recommend them well (but I'll get back to that when the transaction is complete).

By the way: the ~$150 price first quoted for this blade is for a serialised version: that would seem to account for a lot of the difference in price we're seeing from other dealers.

Can you still recommend TheBladeShop?

I ordered three Spyderco knives from them on April 6, 2008. Other than a notice on April 7, 2008 that one of the knives was 'back ordered' I have heard nothing from them and have received nothing from them as of today, May 21, 2008.

Oh, that's not good, sorry to hear it. But they did do fine by me: the whole transaction was very smooth. I did give them a call to check on the status at one point, and quickly got to speak to a very pleasant lady.

Unfortunately I didn't take to the Al Mar at all, and it (and its custom sheath) sit unused. Any takers?

That Al Mar Hawkbill does indeed look very sweet. I would personally prefer a folder though. Say like maybe the, Superhawk?
