I am on a waiting list for the next batch of Pink Delicas. I appreciate the variety Spyderco is providing and look forward to any new colors they put out. I have a whole lot of black handled knives so a little variety is a good thing. And yes I will carry the pink knife. A great tool is a great tool no matter the color.
So many knives, so few pockets... :)

I passed on pink...

I passed on the pinks...just looking at them makes me blue. But like Starling, I'd lay down some serious green for purple...

I like to carry my pink delica. I find it hilarious be a tough looking 6' 250 lb. man carrying a pink knife. That and it fits with my twisted sense of humor.

I remember either reading a story somewhere in a knifemag, book or online thread, that the earlier pink spydies were also liked by guys who had their regular knives stolen a few times. Apparently guys, who had their black spydies stolen from a gymlocker or something, found that their pink knives stayed put. The thieves didn't like the bright pink. :D

Color factors trigger varied responses

I like all of Spyderco's "Nuclear Colored Handles" :D Especially the bright yellow ones because they are easy to find if you are working in the timber, tall grass or in the marsh where I find myself on occasions.

Nuclear pink along with their bright orange & yellow counterparts do indeed serve a purpose for usage. Now the pink is truly a collectible Spyder because of low numbers but they do serve a functional purpose as well.

Also there is a psychological factor here also. Some people associate certain colors to be more friendly or harmless. For instance a lot of people think that blue Yojimbos and blue Dodos seem to be more sheeple friendly than their BLACK counterparts. Even though they are the same exact knife

:spyder: A pink knife is litigious camoflage! If I can get my hands on a pink delica or endura I'll swap the scales on my waved e4 or d4 and make that my main carry piece. I carry primarily for self protection and should I ever be in a situation where I have to defend my actions in court I'd rather the prosecutor hold up a pink knife and make the jury giggle than a black handled knife that makes them gasp. :spyder:

Hmm, now that's a thought Michael! I wonder if, by extension, one were to paint their gun pink if it would have the same effect? I'm actually not kidding on this! :D

Thinking like the Jury

Exactly! Excellent point, Michael.

Which is why I'm hot for purple. It's not as visible, yet it should have the same kind of "how can you take that seriously" effect under jury scrutiny. I'm certain pink's good for courtrooms, but if I could get a darker color that drew a little less attention to itself, all the better. (BTW, this is why I don't think the muted greens are any more helpful, as they could make a jury think "tactical camouflage.")

Also, I think marbled colors would make dandy litigious camoflage as well. This is where I wish somebody would make aftermarket G-10 scales for "screwed" Spydercos. I'd rehandle whatever I could in "can't take it seriously" colors, as I suspect would Michael, and others who have learned to think like juries.

What's that you say -- you don't think like a jury? You can always learn. Here's how. First, get enough alcohol in you to lower your IQ by a couple dozen points. Then go stand in line at a crowded post office till you're bored, frustrated, and have to use the restroom. You'll start thinking like a jury in no time.

I dunno, but I'll bet convictions are lower for people who use a "Lady Smith" vs. people who use a "Tek-9". Anyhoo, must run, I'm off to by some pink paint.

My theory. Sal has noticed as I have that all these new generation of youth look so androginous that it seems like a good idea.

Ok, seriously. I think woman are finally waking up to the idea that they can carry a knife also and in fact many that never did before, like my wife for example, are doing it more now than you would have seen just ten years ago. I didn't see that many woman asking for mods on folders or see that many on the forums in my early days browsing and doing the things I do but I hear from them for pocket clips, anodizing them pretty colors, making them easier to open and stuff like that as well as see them interacting on the public forums more than I did just a few years ago.

I've also noted that more show up on the ranges shooting than they used to and also in other fields that used to be predominantly male fields like Dentistry for example. When my wife graduated dental school only 20 out of 100 were woman and it was the largest woman number in any class to date at the time in 1982. Now its over a 50/50 ratio in most schools.

Steve, I think you've accounted for one part of it. I think the other part is the tremendous increase in internet sales over the past few years. While a B&M that may have few female customers might be reluctant to stock a pink knife, internet merchants, with darn near the whole world as their potential customer base are more willing to order some. Same goes for a lot of other "niche market" knives. I really doubt the P'kal, or the T-Mag, would have seen the light of day ten years ago.
