Nope, just plain old cardboard, i don't care about polishing the edge, it's more for just realigning the edge

Now I will have to buy another spyderco! :)

The Para is one of my favorites too (along with the Captain and Caly 3). IMO, it is a much better EDC than the mini-Manix. The mini is so wide that it is tough to carry in the pocket.

I'm excited to see what the new Para will be like....you know we will all have to get one -- if for no other reason -- to compare to the orginal.

The more i put the Para to work the more i like it, my D4 Wave has some serious competition for EDC time (yes, i carry both at the moment), if the Para came tip-up and was Waved it *would* push the D4W out of my pocket for EDC duties....

I was never really impressed with S30V steel, the Native left me cold, never really liked it, my Dodo has a rather extreme edge bevel (even after thinning it down on the Sharpmaker), both of those knives never really felt like they were cutting smoothly, and i kept them razor sharp on the SM, they tended to bite and snag more than i liked, probably due to the hollow-ground blade architecture on these knives

the Para (and Millie) OTOH, feel like a comletely different knife, their wide, flat-ground blades cut cleanly and smoothly, completely effortlessly, they slice as smoothly as a flat-ground VG-10 blade, and they have greater edge retention than VG-10, the Para/Millie pair is making me rethink my dislike of S30V steel, it's got the "toothy, bitey" edge i like and holds that edge well, i was able to cut the top off a 5 gallon water cooler jug to make an impromptu bucket, and the Para still shaved arm hair after that, they're also easier to sharpen than the Dodo and Native, they take to the 30 degree Sharpmaker setting easily, the Dodo and Native are happiest at 40

the Compression lock on the Para i was a little unsure of, but after a few days of use, i can say that i like it, i still prefer a backlock, but the compression lock is quite safe and stable, i also like the ability it gives to do "Axis-Lock Style" flip opens and closes, by holding the lock open and flipping the blade

the Para is a solid, hardworking beast of a knife, yet small enough not to offend all but the most paranoid sheeple, make it tip-up, add in an Emerson Wave (maybe a removable one like the Pikal) and you'd have an unbeatable hard-use compact blade that *would* displace my D4 Wave

if anyone's still unsure about the Para, it's impressed *this* cynical, hard-to-impress technician, and i'm not eaily impressed...

I have a quick question about my Para I just received. This is my very 1st Para, it's a PE w/ black blade. My ? is, in the :spyder: catalog, I believe it shows the compression lock "tab" to be black like the blade, but it is not, it is satin?? Also when closed, the blade is not centered. Is that purely ascetic? Is there a way to center it?

The tab, yes it is supposed to be silver. I will leave your other question for more knowledgeable people here. They will answer your question better than I can.

my BB para SE is also off center. so is my satin para SE. both tabs are silver. as to whether the blade can be centered, i have tried adjusting the tiny torx above the pivot as some have suggested, but that did not work for me. as it does not affect performance, it doesn't bother me. but perhaps someone else has another idea. regardless, the para is still one of my favorites. i love the compression lock.

J32A2, almost every single one of my Spyderco blades are off center. Ironically, the only Golden Colorado knife I own (Black Yojimbo) is the most off center. it doesn't affect anything, the only problem you'll have is if it bothers you aesthetically.
