Incidentally- on the MOD 6309 I show above- the "circle T" is the symbol used to indicate Tritium, as this was used to indicate the presence of radioactivity when this style watch was originally issued to the british government. Nothing like a little radiation on your wrist, eh?
"It's your watch"
Good Stuff!
Yup- CountyComm has some great ones, although they aren't so quick to restock at times- The 4 ringers are usually out of stock. I like the Maratac brand of Zulu bands, although there are other watch nuts who dig the Rhino brand bands. I think they have them at broadarrow.com... Well worth the price, in my book! Nice duo, J! I especially dig your TSAR- you gotta love the nuclear symbol!!

Some passive birth control never hurts! :D :D I'm happy with the SL used for lume, but MAN, those tritium vials are bright! I wonder what it costs to have them replaced after 10 years which is the life expectancy (per their specs)?

They are close to the same size. Both very very nice but I think I like the TSAR a little better. That might be because it is the newer one and I have been wanting one for quite a while.
In wieght the Tsar is a good bit heavier mostly because of the SS vs Ti
Both have great fit and finish
The Traser beats the TSAR in comfort of wear but that may be because of the band,I need to get a Zulu for the TSAR.
The lum is about the same on both.
Heres a side by side pic.
which is the watch on the left?
True, I guess I hadn't thought of that- They'll still be bright enough to see, which is what matters. Still, I wonder- after checking out the Marathon website, they do not mention the cost to replace them... I wonder if you could get the vials and have them installed by a watch repair person? Someone with a lead vest, I hope! :D Man, I like that TSAR!! Everything is so recessed in there... It just looks great, period.J Smith wrote:I don't think you would really ever have to worry about replaceing them.
The half life of tritium is 12 1/2 years so after 12 years or so it will still be a 50% brightness,25 years it will still glow at 25% of it brightness when new.
Oh- today I made my own springbar tool out of a smallish jewelers screwdriver that had seen better days. What did I use to make the "V" in the tip? A 303M pocket stone, of course, and it works great! It took about 5 minutes, and that thing is sharp, too!

When it comes to high-quality flashlights, Surefire isn't the only game in town.
As for watches. I own a Revo, Swiss Army Clone, for $150.... and in terms of quality, it is better-made than the 2 Swiss Army watches I bought before it. Apparently sticking the Victorinox name on a watch automatically causes the price to go up, regardless of quality.
Neither of those watches should have made it past Q.C.
The watch I've been EDCing lately is my $55 Timex Expedition. Works very well. Also works better than the $200 and $450 Vic models I used to own.
(No wonder most of the watches with the "Guess" name are made by Timex).

hmm, that's odd. my experience with V'nox is nothing short of positive. very good quality.J Smith wrote:I have yet to see a Victorinox that was worth 2 cents.
Swiss Army brand is a good watch, many think that Swiss Army and Victorinox are the same company. They are not.
i believe "swiss army watches" is a cheapo offspring of Wenger watches and SAK's........not too sure 'bout tha one though
but i am sure of this: Victorinox IS a quality brand, you bet, they know their stuff. btw, if anyone might now be considering a SAK, Victorinox is better than Wenger. just so you know it :)

Victorinox came out after Swiss Army brand and Wegner.Victorinox used a logo that looked like Swiss Army Brand and their watches sold much cheaper.I remember that when I first started seeing then I had a couple Swiss Army Brand watches and checked them out.It seemed that Victorinox had sold the use of their name to someone that was knocking off Swiss Army Brand.I have even seen people online selling Victorinox as a Swiss Army and not knowing the differance.

i'll take a Vic over a Wenger or SAB anytime. i think you are somewhat misguided, çause V'nox are the very best.

The one in the middle is a vintage 5513 sub from the early 80's. The one to the right is a vintage 1680 RED submariner from 1974.denn wrote:like the basic and classic Sub in the middle of the pic. is it a 5513 or 14060?
regardless, it's a clean and classic diver watch.

i expected that sort of, since the markers aren't oputlined with the glossy white gold.
nice watches, especially the 5513. keep them close to you, 'cause they're worth quite their price nowadays. those 2 you mentioned are collectibles and often fetch more $$$ when selling than new ones.
again, kudos on the 5513, very sweet!

ok, (im too curious, sorry), this one or this one:cdf wrote:Denn , no model number apparent . She's just a plain jane , only features are deep diving pressure release valve , and date. Just stainless , no Ti or anything sexy - I'm prolly going to replace the stainless braclet with a Zulu nylon band .

if you got either one of these on the original SS-bracelet, KEEP the bracelet on, or at least, KEEP it, don't sell it. in the dive-watch scene this bracelet is regarded as one of the, if not THE, best and comfy bracelets out there. i personally love the thing (wore my dad's 2254 once......wow, comfy and substantial quality!) and wish every diver came with that good a bracelet!
can't wait to read your reply :)
