Thanks a lot guys!!

Having D4 'parts kits' sounds -very- appealing to me. I can see my old Lego boxes making room for a few boxes of colorful D4 parts!

I agree the D4 wasn't made to be taken apart by the ELU endlessly. However, if the spacer unit was aluminum or something, I think it could be.

Nice review, I totally agree. I want a PE blade on the green handle for sure... or maybe on the grey one (waved) :D .
As soon as both are available I'll order them (if money allows it) and I'll go to
work !!

...

Maybe I need a trainer too... Hmmm... :D

Thanks for sharing !

Great review Mr. Blonde . Question , were you tempted to switch out the blades on the blue ZDP189 with the black VG10 ? Very curious !

One of the best reviews I read, definitely! :)

I used to be strictly Caly guy, but since I got myself Delica 4 SS - I finally learned to love that much acclaimed Spyderco's bestseller.

And today I got an email from NGK that my ZDP Delica is on the way...

Happy happy, joy joy! :D

Wouter,
Great review, as always. Also, for me it perfect timing. I should receive today blue D4.
Nice pictures. What camera do you use?

My top choices Natives5, Calys, C83 Persian

Yes and no. I am tempted to put that ZDP blade in a different handle, but for me it would have to be a more spectacular handle color than red, blue, or black.

Remember, trainers are not only for 'training'. They are very cool educational tools, and risk-free toys for flicking while watching a movie. :D

:D I should really check with my JiuJitsu-teacher, but... if we go for the "brown belt " (1st kyu) we need to show a self-made "fight" (kata-like, but flowing from one technique to the other). I'd like to try that with a D4-trainer instead of the normal 'wooden knife" we use. I might edge-ucate some folks on knives and their uses in close combat... myself included.
Since I should start training for this in the next 12 months, I might as well grab a trainer...

Hey, sounds like you have a really good teacher! I can remember my first 'werkstuk' for a Jiu Jitsu kyu exam. I've also been through a couple of 'dan-examens' as well. My advice would be to show you know and can apply the principles of the Ebo-no-Kata (if your club is JBN associated), meaning you include both grabbing, holding, strangle, punching/kicking and weapon attacks. ANother thing these examinators generally like is to see you respond to resistance and countermoves by your opponent to your defences. Oh and another thing, invest heavily in your endurance. They always see how far they can go with the freefight/sparring part of the exam. In my experience, it's not just 'two minutes'; rather they wait 'till your exhausted and then they start the timer. :D Good luck!

Little off topic, but I couldnt resist.

Bit OT again: You're right, I've got a good teacher.
Watched an exam last month (2nd->1st kyu). Normally your "werkstuk" is used for your black-belt exam... We have to show it if we want to go from 2nd to 1st. On top of all that, you need all the E-Bo-No-Kata stuff for that exam, with possibly some extras. Should be fun to do I think :) .
