I got my all time worst spyder bite 8 days ago....I was home alone seated on the sofa in the living room with my 204 sharpmaker on the coffeetable...I was working on the tip of my Viele2 on the "flats" of my white stones when the knife slipped out of my hand ...and before I could blink an eye or yell "OH S***!" the tip of the knife had struck the instep of my left foot leaving a "clean" 2cm gash and about a cup of blood on the living room floor... I think the tip must have gone in about 1 to 1.5 cm until it hit my ankle bone....since I was alone and couldn't walk (because of the brisk bleeding)...I had to take off the Tshirt I was wearing to use as a tourniquet and luckily, a roll of clear packaging tape was sitting on the coffee table nearby and I was able to concoct a pressure dressing of sorts...in addition to applying direct hand -pressure for about 2+ hrs while lying on the sofa with my foot up in the air.....feeling like "a genius" to be in this predicament....luckily, the bleeding eventually stopped, miraculously no important tendons were cut, and a most embarrassing ER trip was narrowly avoided! :p

Pugu: I still carry it from time to time, I love the mans design as he did have us gun handlers in mind when he designed it...because of the angle of handle to blade and wrist position...it is truly a superior thrusting weapon without having to index a wrist position (down) for thrusting a curved blade such as his, and being off target at the end of the thrust...( I hope I explained that OK as not to be confusing).....Doc :D Ohhhhh...and how can you not like those smooth Micarta handles........Puyallupknifegu wrote:Doc, I have been fortunate to date...I only recieve one or maybe two "scrapes" a week...usually on a finger...
You've met Mas...that's pretty cool.
So, do you still use that particular blade? :p

A few weeks ago I was playing around with my full sized Persian. Instead of closing it before showering, I layed it under my pillow so my dog wouldnt get at it, and forgot completely that it was there.. That is until around 11pm when I placed my left hand underneath the pillow. As I was shifting my hands to the underside, my left hand was "bitten" by what I thought was a spider or insect of some kind, as the pain was both sharp and very area specific. I jerked my hand on impulse towards the biting "insect" as opposed to out and away, and thats when "the insect bite" became a clean slash extending from the side of the base of my thumb up into the very tip. The initial shock of being bitten was just my thumb lightly hitting the base of the blade... Lots of blood needless to say.. The belly on the Persian is no fun to run your hands along. I have a nice scar. Besides that incident my spydies have never bitten me.
I decided, late at night, to toast a bagel. I used a razor sharp carving knife to slice it in half. Apparently I had it so sharp that it flew right through the bagel and it finally stopped in the bone in my left index finger. It took forever to get the bleeding to stop and I still have a scar.
I must admit that I did this in my Combat Drinking Days and probably had been working on the good ol' vodka bottle prior to getting hungry. Since going sober 12 years ago....no cuts worth mentioning.

I was at my nephew's birthday party and had bought him a He-Man sword. After presents, he directed all the zip tie toys over to me (since I had a knife) so that I could open them. As I removed the strong zip tie from the top with my native, I managed to push one of those fancy buttons. The buttons made noise, the noise attracted kids right into my lap waiting for this thing to open.
So with kids in such close range, I pulled the box up on it's side and had it facing me so that incase of an accident, no kids would be hurt. Because of how they tied this sword down, I had to cut towards me in a pull cut fashion because if I cut down I would have damaged the toy. Well... here comes the stupidity..
I burried that native in my chest. I hit the bone (or something) and it was pretty good and in there. Surprisingly there was a minimal amount of blood. But whenever I think of the worst spyderbite, this comes to mind.
I have a scar on my chest from it still. Whenever someone asks I just say "I got stabbed with a knife". Oh yeah, street cred.

My worst Spydie bite happened almost 2 years ago. I pulled a couple of frozen tuna steaks out the freezer for dinner. They were frozen together, so I decided to use my Military (mistake #1) to pry them apart. Just before I did this, I had a flash of an image showing the knife hitting my finger, and a voice in my head kept telling me not to use that knife, but I didn't listen (mistake #2). I started to wedge the blade between the steaks (mistake #3) when it slipped, and slid between both steaks. Luckily it was stopped by my pinky before I could escape and cause any more damage. I dropped the steaks and put the knife on the counter then grabbed my pinky, just knowing that I'd cut the tip off. I thought this, because as soon as I made the cut, my finger went numb. After a few seconds of standing there holding my pinky with my eyes closed, I opened my hand and breathed a sigh of relief. The tip was still there and attached, but I had a nice slice almost to the bone. I know this because I could see inside my finger at the time. I wrapped it up, drove to the hospital, and had 4 or 5 stitches put in. To this day, if I hit it wrong, my finger will go completely numb. It's a little misshapen as well, since I think I may have hit the tendon too. It actually took me several months of working my finger before I had full movement again. Even now, when I'm typing, it has a tendency to just stick up in the air on its own :p
Another time, I was testing the newly sharpened edge on an Endura by swiping at an index card. Well, my swing was a little wild, because I ended up lopping off the skin on the middle knuckle of my right index finger. That one actually healed rather nicely.
The third worst one, I had just finished sharpening a J.D. Smith, and was just holding the knife open in my hand, when it just slipped from my grasp. As it fell, it nicked my left knee, cutting a hole through my pants, and slicing my knee. Somehow, I managed to get my pants off and stop the bleeding without getting a drop of blood on them.

I think this picture just convinced me to buy an SS E4. Wow.wec12 wrote:I was studying stupid Statistics and flipping/playing my Endura 4. Next... Cut my finger just a light light light pressure against blade... :p
Anyways, I don't think I have ever gotten bitten by a Spyder, I guess I am just lucky. I have quite an ironic story to share: last week or so I was stacking white plastic yard chairs in my pool area and I sliced my finger on a sharp edge on one of them. I can walk around all day flipping my knives, and never get cut, but I get cut on a plastic lawn chair. xD

Yes, Jeff, that was a mess. I was cutting caulk off the base of a toilet, working between it and the vanity, so there wasn't much room to work. I had the knife in my left hand and was guiding the blade with the fingers of my right hand on the flat of the blade, much as I do when sharpening on a bench stone. The tip of the blade slipped out of the caulk, and my little finger didn't slid across the linoleum quite as fast as the steel. This was actually the incident which convinced me to buy a Dodo, for that ergonomic handle :D
Healing nicely now, thank you...
Typical Saturday morning.....I was cleaning my CF Millie with my UKPK open and sitting on my workbench. Foolishly, I knocked the UKPK off the side of the workbench, and it fell (blade down) and stuck in my lower shin, then came to rest beside my sandal clad foot.
I bled profusely into my sandal as my wife drove up to park in the garage. She applied direct pressure with a shop towell (the blue kind), went inside for a wet compress and feminine (one of those pink ones) shaver. She shaved the hair off around the wound, cleaned it and applied a bandage.
This is 10 days after....should have had a couple stiches, but that would have been really embarassing!

stab
The first one was a few years ago I was cutting rope and stabbed my self in the thigh it took a long time for the bleeding to stop and even longer until I walked without any pain I never went to the hospital realy should have. That left almost an inch long scar.
The other one was a few weeks ago I stabbed my self in the leg again with a pe crossbill cutting a plastic bottle the knife slipped and I stabbed my self again it was not a long cut but was deep.

I got three minor cuts from my Spydies so far.
One caused by my NavigatorII/SE; by one hand clsing the tip of the blade just touched the tip of my pinky.
The other from my Cricket; I reached for my car keys in my pocket and the little knife had opened one way or another
One time (long ago) I closed my NativeIII/SE a little clumsy; the blade just fell on my finger but those serrations are scary sharp NIB
