Why the SPYDERCO label?

Well thanks for chiming in on this one Carlos. I hadn't till now known the full story on this one. But if Bladetech was the one who marketed the MOUSE then why do I and a few other people I know have one with Spyderco's name and logo on it  ? Did Bladetech market the Spyderco models also?

I have the Bladetech S30V model and the Spyderco aluminum handled VG-10, Japan made model as well. Are the models with Spyderco's name & logo on them like maybe the first batch that were made. I do know that there aren't too many of the Spyderco model out there. Were they available at one time through Spyderco's retail dealers.

I ask these questions sincerely because I just don't know. The MOUSE has always been one of the most obscure and mysterious models I have ever encountered.

Carlos is right on. Spyderco manufactured the original mouse as an exclusive for Blade Tech. They were only available for purchase through BT (I bought mine from Tim Wegner), were marketed exclusively by Tim and he owns the design and name. When we manufacture an exclusive, the Spyderco name and logo is left on the product -especially if the product has the round hole. ;)

Wasn't the Mouse just a piece made by Spyderco for Wenger, not officially a Spydie product?
Edit: whoops, replied to soon.
Either way I love my fish logoed original with CF concealex sheath

I've never handled a Mouse but would love to get my hands on one ... as my only "taste" of a Wegner designed knife has been the Ocelot and I'm very impressed by the ergos of this knife.....I'd love to see a picture of the Mouse next to a Cricket / Kiwi/ Spin....looks like a cool little big knife!

Blade Tech MOUSE lives on but I want the Spyder

Well "jaislandboy" you sure show up at irregular and unpredictable times :D You need to make it a point to get yourself a Bladetech Mouse. The Spyderco version would be an extremely tough find. But you would be most pleasantly surprised. It is just a crying shame that the little jewel never made the main line up. It would have certainly become a classic under the Spyderco label. It's probably about my all time favorite "little knife" of all times.

I'd love to have a Spyderco Mouse, but the BladeTech one is just does not do it for me. The clip and the v-hole are just not my thing. I have a Spin on the way and I think that will satisfy the same niche that I was looking to fill with the Mouse.

As others have said, I'd absolutely LOVE to see the Gentle Bug hit production, I'd have to buy it!

Bladetech makes a lot gun holsters, knife sheaths, magazines for guns and various other related sporting good type items.

I hate to disagree, but the Wegner mouse hole is just as good and even easier to open than just a round hole because it is wider(more oval) at the point of where the thumb pushes. I only have one bladetech mouse in carbon fiber and 6 spydie knives and honestly prefer the hole configuration on the mouse.

on a somewhat related note, i like the comet shaped holes on the Byrds a bit better than the plain spydie hole. offers more "bite" for the thumb to grip on.

Yes, I particularly like the large crow holes.

Thanks for the comment. I picked up this one on eBay for $103. The picture doesn't show it but the handle shows wear since it was carried but the blade is perfect. I'm very happy with it.

Congrats Sod, that is a pretty fair price.
