whats canadian law say about fixed blades?

Here you have a rational, decent, law abiding adult who has a legitimate use for a very high quality, reputable piece of cutlery only to find out that the politically In-correct crowd has reared their disgusting, ugly head to invoke more "Chairman Mao" type laws to a civilized society. It's simply got to stop. The people simply have to put their foot down and scream that "enough is enough".

Don't get me wrong> I love and respect my brothers/sisters in Canada and I fear for the type of system that is taking over up there. We are talking about pocket knives which are nothing but a TOOL>> A legitimate tool that every adult should have. I don't give a hang what they do with a knife on TV either. they are just using that as a sick, lame excuse. It's just got to stop :mad:

I think "authority" figures are afraid of "weapons" because they know that if they extend their totalitarianism too far, eventually the "armed" masses will revolt. It happened to England once in the 1700s, I think... :D

Gotta' keep the sheeple feeling safe I suppose.

Here in Colorado not 7 miles from the Great Spyderco Factory there is an Army Surplus store that no longer carries Spydies for purely business reasons.

I don't know what the reason is, I figure they just don't want my business anymore.

You can look alot closer to home to find laws as restrictive, or more restrictive, than we have here in Canada. How about Boston's 2 1/2 inch length limit, New York City where it is illegal to even sell a locking folder with over a 4 inch blade, or Texas!! where 6 inch fixed blades or throwing knives are defined as "illegal knives? What would Jim Bowie think? :eek:

I'm don't like and I'm not defending Canadian knife laws, but unreasonable and restrictive laws happen everywhere - even where you have "the right to keep and bear arms" It's not Communism, just whiny liberal reactive legislation that never deals with the true cause of problems.

At least here I can still legally carry any length of fixed blade I want. I can carry my Police or waved Endura clipped in my pocket (they're stiff enough to resist easy flicking) and not worry.

What I really worry about are laws that many European countries are introducing which outlaw, locking blades, one-hand openers, or all knives.

Things aren't really as bad as you would suggest up here :)

Nothing totalitarian going on in my neck of the woods. I own and trade as many spydies as I want. As for communist, well the government doesn't own everything yet....In fact, I did try to sell them an old Ford Escort earlier in the year, but they wouldn't take it.

Maybe MEC (yes, they did carry spydies for quite awhile) decided that it just wasn't worth it. I bet you don't have to go farther than 2 subway stops to find one - if you can avoid the Secret Police on the way :p

So MEC used to carry Spydies...I did not know that. See you learn something new everyday :D

The only time I ever saw a person get stabbed was with a steak knife, not a tactical folder. In my neck of the woods any folder under 4" is fine. Unless deemed not a normal pocketknife, which is under the jurisdiction of the cops. The only place that I found that sells spydies around here are a few little gun shops and Wal-Mart. The only reason I know about spyderco is because of a friend who helped teach me about good knives.

My wife bought the Spyderco Ocelot from LeBarons at less than140.00 Canadian or about 110 US. No other place including MEC could match that price.

As for MEC they are a big time Lefty organization and are nervous about contraversial products like fur ruff or one handed opening knives or contraversial ideas like freedom of choice. They do sell this though

Go Figure? Maybe one handed knives are ok as long as they are semi crappy?

I researched this a few months ago, they seem to have fixed that very rare problem they were having.

Well, if it could be of any help, we here in the Montreal area (Quebec, Canada) have a high end outdoor store called La cordee. They used to be specialized in climbing and white water sports and the had always carried basic Spydercos like Delica, Rescue and Dragonfly.

But yesterday, visiting folks in St-Bruno (High end Suburbs!!!) I went and paid a visit to a newly opened succursale of La Cordee. Was I surprise to see not only the obvious basics they usually carry, but also SS Crickets SE, Native S30V PE, but also 3 Models H1. And to top it off, the clerk told me everything I had to know about Spyderco and all the Extraordinaire Proprieties oh H1 Steel.

We loose some, We win some...
