Great thread. I have no experience with later models but the original Leatherman blade was/is a piece of crap. When I fought forest fires, I carried the leathernman for all the tools and a folding knife for the cutting jobs.
Come to think of it, if they made a multitool with a mini pry bar instead of a subpar knife blade, it would be a better tool overall. I could see the endliners complaining because there was no blade though...

The Byrd Harp tool looks like a good tool for knifeknuts, no blade there.

I noticed that, and found it to be a great idea. IMO it leaves room for other tools that one may need, and doesnt bother with the things i wont use. Its not like i dont have a knife or 2 or 3 on me.

That's true, but it looks a little unwieldy to carry. I'd like something similar to the Spyderench, but forego the blade, and just give it more actual tools. Heck, a Spyderench with attachments for Torx bits would be the perfect tool to go with a Spyderco(like a BM Blue Box, but actually useful). That's the one thing I liked about my Leatherman, the interchangeable bits(and a heck of a lot of them)

I'll let you know. Ordered one for the heck of it when I ordered the Firebyrd. Looked interesting enough. Should be here Monday.

It appears to be a better multi tool for a drawer in a crowded NY apartment than a multi tool to carry in the back pocket... :spyder:

That is very true, but something similar, in an easier to carry package, would be pretty cool.

Greencobra, let us know how it carries, I'd be glad to pick one up if it's going to be at least some comfortable to carry.
