Just ordered my alotted Two Waved Enduras. These will be my first Enduras and man, were they were expensive! (for Endura) A whole lot less than an Emerson Wave, though.

I just couldn't help myself. I broke down and #9's pics didn't help. (good pics, by the way)

Being that they are completly ambidextrous was a good excuse for me to get a pair. One for each pocket, like a gun-slinger. Draw!!

I didn't know anything about the politics or whatever they would be called until recently. If Sal got burned in some way, I'd be bummed. He is, after all, Poppa Spyder, and I have, do, and will go out of my way to support :spyder: in any way I can ( got some stuff cooking, but more later).
Anyway, I started out, first draw of the Waved Endura, twisting the wave outwards, causing it to catch on the hem/lip of my pocket. This is a little hard on the pocket, but it is fast. Then, I tried dragging the wave against the side of my pocket during the draw; just as fast, and it seems to me to be less of a strain on the pocket. Either way, it seems that if you get to know where the wave is in relation to your pocket (against the side, or twisted slightly to engage the lip), it will open consistantly. I really love this knife and I hope it will be made in another run, with plenty of notice in this and other forums. Also, hopefully, as a :spyder: release with whatever compensation Emerson needs for the use of the wave. Keep it simple (as possible :D ).

But it's not the Endura that Spyderco has manufactured and sells by the 1000's (10's of thousands?). It took new tooling for the blade which has to be amortised over the 500 piece run. Thens there's the licencing fee to Emerson. Just like the Matriarch, SpyderHawk or Pacific Salt, it's basically a new model in the Endura handle. For a small run, paying the equivalent of the Endura's MSRP isn't really out of line.

Not familiar with "wave draw", but impressed by people's responses.

What's the price of this 'custom' piece and how to order it?
Can one be sure this won't be mass-produced later? :confused:

Basically, the "Wave" draw works because the "hook/wave" at the top of the blade catches the seam of your pants as you draw the knife out and opens it. With practice, it's seamless and every time you pull your knife out it's already open and ready to use.
Right now, they are only available from SelfDefenseGear.com for around $79 and the run was only 500 pieces. There is a limit of two per person, and I already have my two and love them. It's been my EDC for about a week now. A coworker just this morning can be quoted as saying, "That sure did open fast, are you sure that's legal?" They cost a little more than a regular Endura, but IMO it's worth it.
As far as it becoming mass-produced, can't say, but Spyderco would have to license the Wave feature from Emerson and that could get expensive.

As Joe mentioned, there was no involvement from Spyderco or me in the argument that occured with SDF.

We made a deal and we've had no problems with SDF or anyone else.

We did license the "Wave" feature from Ernest and pay royalties for the rights to use his patented feature. I don't think Ernest would have any objections if we continue to make waved models. He wants to make sure his patent number is on each piece, which we put on the back-side of the blade.

At this time, we've had requests from dealers and distributors worldwide for regular production of waved models. We've designed a Waved Delica as well.

Right now we're just watching reactions before making any decisions about future production.

Well Sal The Wave Feature Is Very Cool, A Delica Would Be Perfect I Hope You Press Forward With The Delica At A Lower Price Point To Bring This World Class Feature To Everyone. I Would Love This Feature In A Delica It Would Be The Perfect Size For Edc. Maybe A Sprint Run To Test The Market, With A Desert Camo Handle? #9

If one's local ordinances allow waved knives to be carried for self-defence then the extra speed in which a wave gets a blade deployed into the hand well make it worth the effort to develop the required skill.
In my state waves are legally switch blades so I'll stick with :spyder: holes and drilling the most gross motor functionally way of opening(thumb on hole all the way open, no inertia openings)
Inertia opening is fun I just make sure I don't drill it so I don't accidentally default to it at needs and throw my knife across the room.

If it matters, I have other knife purchases already made or pending, or I would be getting one of these right now.

I would be VERY interested in other waved Spyderco's... The current Waved Endura is one interesting knife... A Delica would be great.

I would be very interested in a waved Spyderco, as long as I could get it from a source other than SDG.

it's because if there's enough demand, they might be doing more than one run... it's not a limited edition, more like a sprint run.

Obviously I'm not Sal, but the handles on the first 500 are grey FRN instead of the usually black on the "normal" Endura.

I for one am just thrilled to see Spyderco's approach to these factory/factory collaborations. First Kershaw and now Emerson. So far, these collabs have resulted in two companies putting forward their finest innovations into a single model. The Spyker and Waved Endura are both a little too big for me, but a waved Delica would be just the ticket!
