mpclb, while you're shopping around for your Military be aware that the older versions had an ATS-34 blade (versus the 440v blade on the current version). I prefer the ATS-34 blade on the Military--I may be wrong but in my mind the material seems "stronger." I believe most people really like the 440V and I'm not attempting to condemn the material--I'm just pointing out another option to you and have you decide which you prefer before buying.
It might be possible that some dealers may have the "old" version still in stock but you would need to do alot of searching. Auctions may be source of used ATS-34 versions.
Question about the Military
Was able to hold/examine a Military for the first time today. An interesting knife. I liked the handle pretty well, tho wasn't entirely sure how comfortable it would be to hold for long periods of time/work.
I couldn't help but compare it to my Wayne Goddard Ltwt. The Military seemed even thinner in my hand than the Goddard, which is going some. I have never seen such a thin scale as the one on the side with the liner. The lock worked very well.
While admittedly I got the Goddard at a closeout bargain price, I do have to say that in no way did the Military seem worth 4 times what I gave for the Goddard. Of course CPM440V is more expensive than ATS55. ANd, of course G-10 is more expensive than FRN. But 4 times? Sorry, but the Military isn't real high on my list of Spydies to buy.

The Military is an extremely lightweight, but large knife. It is also the right tool for any number of situations. This is my first preference for carry, but not for all situations. The Mil wouldn't be my choice at a wine and cheese party and definately not as a carry-on while at most airports.
The Military has an enlarged hole that makes opening it a breeze and once you play with it, I believe you'll be hooked as I was. The price isn't cheap, as John Arbuckle said in 1905, "You get what you pay for".
One way or the other, you pay for your tools!

Fellow Spydies…
Tomorrow I go and pick up my plain edged Military, on hold for me at my local dealer. I finally received the money today that I'd been waiting for.
As I mentioned it's one of the previous versions, with diamond engraving on the blade which I really like. I had some trouble deciding on the blade style that I wanted with this knife, before settling on the plain edge version.
I’ve been thinking, if I like this knife as much as I think I’m going to then perhaps I’ll end up buying another eventually, with a serrated blade and in the new design. But I’m getting ahead of myself. Can’t wait to cut something with my new Military!
Cheers, Jeff/1911.

Have fun Jeff! Cut a few cardboard boxes for me!!! It'll be a few months before I buy my next knife, plenty of time for me to waffle about trying to decide what it's going to be Military's in the front running, and it's been that way for 3 days now which is a personal record
