I can understand where you're coming from Luke, but I think one of the biggest problems people have is that it isnt what the government is telling you you can't have, its that the government simply is telling you you can't have a certain item. The problem is not with the item itself, it is with the people who misuse the item.

Sure but I am happy with government controls over certain items, it is a practical way of limiting missuse. Guns are a particular case that comes to mind. Things like automatic knives? Well I have no desire to own them and I can't see why anyone can't live without them. If you want them, vote for someone who would let you. :D

All in all, I think saying you are allowed to carry any size knife, so long as you have a good reason, is about the most liberal way you could implement knife control.

The Deacon's Jester --

I want one. Now. No, that's wrong. I want 5 now!! OK Deacon, how much do you want. My checks in the mail! Hey, I got it. Sell (or give) that design to Sal! Hope Sal is looking at that. Hope Sal likes the idea!

Last year, Sal showed me a proto of a Jester with the humps ground off. So you end up with a Ladybug blade with a large Jester hole and Jester Frame. Make it with a different color FRN, and I’ll buy it.

I like the Jester as is, and would surely get an upgrade version with a VG10 blade or better. It would be primarily of collector interest to me though. I haven’t found the current steel to be lacking in any way.

I just had a thought, picture the ridges on the back of the jester blade with the matte finish of laser cut CPMS30V. Wouldn't that look rather nice?

Can anyone say "Spiderkey". I think they were not great money makers for :spyder: . I bet these would be in the same price range as the Kiwi. How many people are willing to pay $70 (street) for a keyring knife?

i wish for one thing for the jester. Make no changes except for VG-10 and a 3-screw clip and then make it the same size as the delica. i'd buy 3

But here's my .02: much though I LOVE the jester, I think I would hold out for an upgrade to the dragonfly...(due to limited funds!)

What about this, since we're talking about various sizes and upgrades of the Jester:

How about a dragonfly sized (or slightly larger) Jester with G-10 handles, improved blade steel, reversable clip, and... dreaming here that someday it could be on such a small knife... a ball lock?

Make it green or blue G-10, just to be different. :D

I've been carrying a SS SE Jester Mon-Fri since last fall sometime and I have to admit that it has replaced the SS Cricket I had carried for some time.

I don't agree with the idea of needing better bladesteel if the cost point can be held. I've been using this little guy off and on for months and it's still plenty sharp. I just cut my bagel cleanly with it on Wednesday and it hasn't seen the Sharpmaker yet.

As to a clip on this one .... Come on ... It's not built for that. You want a small knife with a clip then get a Dragonfly, Navigator or Cricket. This one is a "lay down quietly in your pocket kinda Spydie". :)

It's a super follow-on to the LadyBug. Great little knife.

I love having the Jester on my key ring. It sees more regular use then my Native because I am around lots of NKP, plus it's a great size for small-scale tasks. While I would be excited to see one made with upgraded steel, I would not be excited to pay much more since it works very well already (as others have mentioned previously).

I would not want a Jester with a clip because I think the clip would attatch to a wallet or other keyrings in my pocket. Also, I don't understand how such a small, lightweight, and light-duty knife would benifit from the addition of liners (but I am also far less knowledgeable than you other forumites).

Paul, I can see myself carying your full flat grind, bolstered Jester. Just replace the wooden scales with something else (stag, CF, jigged (dino) :eek: bone etc.) And put some damascus in that blade. :cool:

Lapis bolsters and pre-ban ivory scales. I carry it occasionally instead of a Kiwi.

For use on a key ring, I still think micarta is the way to go, the stuff is remarkably damage resistant. My burgundy one has been playing tag with my keys for going on three years now and the handle still looks darn good.

While the FRN version also holds up very well, the micarta just looks nicer to me, and I felt it was worth the price.
