That knife rates a 10/10 on my cool list! Will it be available to buy at the IWA show Sal? :)

I really like the looks of the Spyker. Should be no problem sharpening with a sharpmaker.

Does anyone know what the blade length is?

KInd of interesting i would like it better if it had just the spyderhole though. I will have to see one in person first, but it looks like a real nice user.

There's not really anything in there for scale. How big is this new knife?

There have been a couple of longer threads on the Blade Forums debating whether or not there should be an "assisted open" Spydie and ..... what sort of design should be used in the event that Sal does build one.

I am hoping Sal does choose to build at least one AO knife. :D

it's tip down, blade is 3.5", it's 4oz., and carries a $249.95 msrp.

what's the point of collaborating if they don't add assisted opening? What exactly is kershaw adding to the knife, besides the name and the design? Spydies have great steel and the hole, kershaw has ken onion and assisted opening. It sounds like spyderco is getting ripped and kershaw is getting the deal of the century.

seriously if Kershaw really added the design, I see no problem, that's the way collaborations work. they design, spyderco build.

I rather like it. But, I'd rather see it smaller and less expensive. The blade shape kinda reminds me of a seagull beak!

Some guesses (not insider info):

1. Ken Onion probably has an exclusive contract with Kershaw, which means that Kershaw would have to legally be part of an Onion-designed Spyderco (if true).

2. The 3-hole ornamental pattern in a knife blade is TM of Kershaw. For this knife to have three round holes in its blade requires Kershaw's permission. Notice how the Skirmish went from 3 holes to 4? That is the power of Kershaw's trademark.

I wonder why the Skirmish was revised to avoid infringing on Kershaw's trademark but not to avoid Spyderco's trademark :confused:

A Note - the row of decreasing (or increasing) diameter holes is a feature that Ken Onion has used on many of his knives in the past.

$250 is MSRP. i'm certain that it'll be a lot cheaper than that in the real world. probably less tan $200.

as for the design, i held it. it's a great design and it's very well done. i would have liked to see it be assited opening but i guess that's because it was made at spyderco and they lack the design to do it. either way, it's cool have an Onion design made in something other than 440A :-)

Does anyone have a production pic of the new Byrd Hawkbill knife? I have searched a bit on the web and can't find any mention of it or its MSRP.

That's a darn good question! In my opinion, it definitely shows the state of BM's ethics. I think BM probably feels that, since Mr. Glesser licenses the "Spyderco hole" to custom makers, and BM made a production version of a custom blade (the Skirmish, which I laughingly refer to as "The Ken Onion designed Spyderco Commander" :D ), they're able to skate. They'd probably do the same thing if they (BM) collaborated with Jens Anso on a production version of one of his designs, since he licenses the "Spyderco Hole" on his customs. Even though the Skirmish looks cool and I'd love to own one, I refuse to buy the knife on principle. :spyder:

I've often thought about starting a thread on "The new, ultra-cool, Onion/Spyderco/EKI collaboration", and then attaching a picture of the BM Skirmish, but I figure I'd get flamed to death! :p
