How "R" you?
Which knife?
Hello there "jyork". I guess we kind of got a little sidetracked. When you say that the knife didn't come in a box are you talking about the "Terzuola" or the "R"? I heard that the Terzuola didn't come in a box. But I know for a fact the "R" came in a box because I have it here in an official white Spyderco factory box. I am curious as to which one you are talking about. PEACE :)

A Must...
Of course, J.D.JD Spydo wrote:Hey I got another Idea!! Let's get the Great Spyder Factory to make a Hawkbill blade in the same way the "Q" and the "R" were made. A skeleton type Hawkbill blade. DR. Lecter are you hearing this??!!!!! :D :spyder:
A skeletonized hawkbill would be wonderful. Lightweight and very fast. I think it an ideal EDC for general cutting chores. How about a 2" blade to keep things small and light, yet very utilitarian?

Almost there!
But Dr. Lecter you are almost where I am aiming at. I was thinking about the Spyderhawk with a skeletonized blade. You would almost have to have one that size to make a skeletonized blade with enough structural integrity. I could stand a little one on the line of the Harpy. This is do-able is it not. Doctor listen! Rome wasn't built in a day and neither will this other project if we can convince all in Spyderville and the Spyder elite :D :spyder:

That would certainly be an interesting and visually attractive collector's piece JD, and I would definitely want one. For a "user" though, I much prefer a solid blade. There is less chance of it binding when cutting through thick material and cleanup is easier after cutting soft materials. Ever use a Q to spread peanut butter? Better yet, ever try getting it out of the jar with one? It can be very amusing, at least if someone else is wielding the knife. On a more serious note, there are fewer nooks and crannies where rust can develop, although this issue could be addressed by making the skeletonized blades from H1. Granted, some of these are less of an issue for a hawkbill than for a more "conventional" blade style, but some are not.JD Spydo wrote:Hey I got another Idea!! All In Good Time

Certainly. I think a skeletonized Harpy would be unreal. Put me down for two, even at full retail (which for me is saying something.)
I am listening, J.D. Always. There are those posting here whose posts I specifically seek out to read, and you count among those individuals, though I do not know whether or not you (or they) consider it an honor or just a bit creepy having me lurking about... :-)JD Spydo wrote:Doctor listen! I also think Sal is listening; Lord knows we are making sufficient racket here, and he is hardly the kind of man to ignore such things. Spyderco has done so very well by listening to their customers I sincerely doubt they'll stop listening anytime soon.
We'll see more hawkbills, my friend. Trust me on this one. It may be a while before we see exactly what we are after, but I believe it will come.
Still, in the interim, it *is* fun to talk about the possibilities, isn't it? :-)

Hawk butter?
You got me on that one Deacon. I have never ever seen anyone trying to spread peanut butter with a Hawkbill blade. You do though make a couple of good points about the overall functionality of a skeletonized Hawkbill blade. Yeah I am sure there would be some problems you could encounter but I do think that Dr. Hannibal Lecter makes a great point with the blade being lighter for quicker utilization. Although self defense and practical chores are apples & oranges by comparison. So maybe you are both right? But spreading peanut butter with a Hawkbill blade???? I guess if you were going to spread it on a round loaf it might work.  :spyder:
