Aloha Jim,
No, no...I don't want ANY credit for what I did on my end. What is a trip is that this officer is looking for a worker's comp claim for a LONG time off work for something he NEVER did! He wasn't even injured! As he was driving his @$$ off to the ER, he seemed proud of it...laughing and everything! I can see if he was REALLY injured, but to feign injury to get paid time off...idiot. Besides, a whole quad of inmates were witnesses to the whole incident from start to finish...man, even one inmate who is usually "high" on medications was like, "show me that move Daywalker, show me that move ya did!" Yeah, right...
HoB: MAHALO for your kind words my friend! Yes, to restrain ones self is hard sometimes...but the one thing I do when the situation permits is to takedown HARD. When I swept this particular inmate, he hit the concrete HARD!!! I do this for the plain and simple fact that I DO have rules to follow, so I will not allow these inmates to attack freely while I am limited in what i can, or cannot do. Takedowns are fine and "legal" for me, so i do them HARD to not give the inmate a chance to respond with a crazed attack...
I don't like to hurt people, period. But when restraining is a part of the job, I have sworn to uphold my duties to the best of my ability.
Mahalo again, HoB...God bless you.

Sometimes, rules SUCK!!!
Today an inmate gave me a rough time because I wouldn't let him off the block while count was being taken (DUH!!).
As an officer was escorting him to receive his insulin, the CO heard this inmate say to another inmate that if I kept busting his balls, he'd (bleep) me up.
The officer told me about it, so I wrote the inmate up for threatening a staff member, which is a Crimes Code charge.
The captain voided my misconduct, saying that it wasn't a threat because I didn't hear it personally.
I then advised the officer who heard it that he'd have to write it up. It seems the inmates then got to him before he wrote it up, and intimidated him.
I rewrote my original misconduct (minus the threats) because the inmate refused several orders and was in an unauthorized area. The same captain voided THAT misconduct, as well. He said I was being personal with the inmate. What a jack off!
This captain is known for giving COs a hard time, and is living up to his reputation.
I think I'll take both of the misconducts and mail them to the Commisioner of our DOC to let him see what kind of hanky panky is being played by our captain. It's very frustrating at times when someone threatens you and the administration backs them up.

Jim,
sorry to hear that brother. It's a crime your Capt isn't aware what side of the line he is on. I has appeared to me over the years that a supervisor who gives the officers a harder time than the cons is due to nothing more than cowardise.
A few years ago now, a fellow officer was reviewing the recorded telephone conversations made by the cons. A particularly nasty prisoner made a call to his brother asking him to look through the electoral role (a public record), for my address as he wanted to take retribution on my wife and son for the "firm but fair" treatment he had received. Unfortunately, my fellow officer had erased the recording.
We took this to the Unit Manager, who gave us two choices. Either my colleague could write him up, or I could have a personal interview during "lock up". Which ever I would prefer.
I am not a criminal. So the write up went before the Prison Governor. 42 days added to sentance for threatening and abusive behavior. Three days later, this prisoner and I are alone in the servery/dining area. He comes at me. "Personal Interview" takes place. Unit manager first to respond to alarm. Unit Manager writes him up!! Another 42 days added to sentence (the max at the time).
This Unit Manager has been dead some 7 years now after seeing only 11 months of retirement after 34 years service. 270 officers from all over the country attended his funeral.
As a post script, about a week after the attempted attack, I had to inform the prisoner that his grandmother had died. He took it badly. I organised a phonecall and gave him a coffee and a smoke. I then gently, escorted him back to his cell. Two days after that, he approached me on the exercise yard, thanked me for the way I gave him the bad news, apologised for his appalling behaviour and in front of several hundred other prisoners, held his hand out! Go figure!!
Jim, is your PO Box up and running yet?
Regards,
Simon.

Daywalker,
i dont know if youve ever seen the simpsons, but i know that im thinking of one episode. Bart goes to learn karate, and the instructor says, "we learn karate so we may never use it" and bart leaves. Reading your stories always brings this quote to mind. Thank you for the job you are doing, i know i certainly couldnt do it, and stay safe man.
ps. i shudder to think of the poor guy who tries to take your wallet, you sound like you know how to defend yourself <img src="tongue.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>.

Howzit Delicrazy!
LOL! Mahalo for your kindness...
I ain't a big dude, so growing up I had to learn "how" against big guys...
Also, I always train with guys bigger than me w/ a "speed demon" my size thrown in now and then...LOL! As Dialex once told me, "Variety is the spice of life."..it also helps you learn how to defend it or anothers!
Everyone has the ability to defend themselves, just like anybody can "fight"...but I have taken it upon myself due to the nature of my occupation to "specialize" in techniques that work best for me. The simpler the better, as I have noticed the body does in fact lean towards the gross motor skill side in a "fan hitting moment". That's what made these past incidents I was involved in so funny..."armbar, arm/neck lock, leg locks"...where'd those come from?! LOL! I intend on returning safely to my family at home and HERE everynight after my watch.
Anyways, mahalo again, and God bless! BTW-Great Forum Name!

Simon, unfortunately, my PO box will not be up and running for quite some time, as I can't afford to rent one right now.
Recently, a few financial pitfalls have befallen my family, leaving us amazingly short on money. For the foreseeable future, extra money will be completely non-existant.
I've actually begun trying to sell some items (knives, mostly) that I have in an effort to raise a bit of money. I'm also beginning to work overtime (hooray, MORE time that I get to spend in prison!).
My wife and I are extremely frustrated right now, as we're trying to make ends meet, and things seem to just get tighter.

Well, the crooks were at it again today...
Around 0730, a fight broke out between two inmates in the New Side Dining Hall. Before they knew it, several other inmates jumped in to help their homies, and a full-scale brawl erupted.
Fortunately, no officers were seriously injured, and all involved parties were drug away to the Hole, kicking and screaming. Apparently, a good time was had by all.
For the past few weeks, there have consistently been fights almost daily.

Take it from me : too bad you don't live
in the States - you could keep a locked & loaded 12ga near the front door in case
Mr. Tough guy wanted to pay you a visit!
Then, maybe you could - a side-by-side, if
it took more than one shot...
If I were in charge there, the "personal
interview" would've taken place <i>"behind closed doors" </i> <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> And, the hot shot wouldn't have had "plans" for anything but
seeing a doctor after he got outta the slammer!
Ferget <i>legal </i> impose some <i>morals </i> on his @$$! ( or "manners" <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>)
Isn't "con" the bad side of something?
( pros & cons?)
