My smoothest one(I have had 3) has been my Starmate. This one I am keeping. Second smoothest would be my Calypso.

java,

That's a great story!

The Viele is the smoothest opening Spydie I've ever had the extreme pleasure to handle and own.

From all the FRN Spydies I own, the Earth Native has - by far - the smoothest action, even NIB. The Seki ones took a lot of exercise to smoothen up.
Speaking of non FRNs, those perform much better. The Shabaria, Lum Chinese and especially the Vesuvius (blue shell inlay) have all outstanding behavious. Even the smaller Salsa does its job fine. The Cobra hood is a nice addition, BTW.
From what I heard, the Viele is the champion. Didn't have the opportunity to operate it, nor a Lil'T or a Millie to see how it works.
As a conclusion, speaking it terms of deployment and smooth action, compression locks are the best, followed closely by linerlock and afther them come the front (middle / back) locks. Can't tell about the ball / axis locks, didn't handle any.

My Native is the smoothest of all my FRN cos. Calypso Jr. is a quick opener and the Delica pops open pretty smooth too despite the strong lock up. The Pro-grip better than my Jester, but both on the stiff side.

Altho it's a web forum and I adore s.
The old style B/M AFCK liner locks have no equal in smoothness.
I wish would go to the bronze phospher washer system, add these to an old 800 B/M and a single drop of Miltech and you have lightin in your hand.
Conversely tho I'm NOT impresed by B/Ms attempt at the FRN lockback program.
