Possibly an unpopular opinion but I’d much prefer a linered Salt P4LW, a la the Caribbean or PM2 Salt. I value both the heft and extra burliness the liners give a knife, especially on longer blades. If I’m carrying a big ole knife I’m generally doing something a bit more at the rough and tumble end of the cutting spectrum. I’ve finally come to terms with my SE S2XL Salt having such a light handle, but I certainly baby it a bit more than my SE P4LW (rabid little pocket chainsaw that it is).
I'm not so sure it's an unpopular opinion. I think both camps are well represented.

For me it's the realization that folding knives spend most of their time in the pocket, so weight matters. And for backpacking / hiking even more so. This is a use case where both linerless and salt are welcome features, and the combo is just ideal.

I don't think I use my longer blades harder, but I sometimes want a longer blade to cut stuff with a larger circumference. This is especially true if I plan to do creative outdoor cooking. Still I've never felt the need to baby my linerless Spydercos. Or Cold Steels for that matter.

I have carried and used my TRL Endura a whole lot since I got it, so I get that liners have their place. It's a more likable knife than my soulless, cheaper feeling Pac Salt. And definitively smoother. But I'm function over soul and would probably get a linerless version instead if I could. And use it just as hard. I have mostly linerless knives and I still haven't broken one. Which is kind of a shame as I have endless amounts of spares I need to justify :D

I wish we could have it both ways, so everyone got their perfect knife, but that would probably result in a mountain of SKUs and logistics **** for Spyderco. So while obviously biased in this matter, I think it also objectively makes sense to separate linered and linerless offerings depending on their saltiness. For the most part. There will always be exceptions.

I use it at work, in the yard, in the kitchen, in stores, etc... Zero issues with corrosion. That's anywhere on the coating, OR on the edge. I've thinned the edge bevel down noticeably from factory, and it's handling it just fine. I keep a 300-ish grit edge on it also - no issues there either, but boy it sure does BITE. Feels good on the stone, and deburrs easily enough.

Keeping my fingers crossed for a linerless FFG P4LW Salt (LC200N or Magnacut) Pretty Please.

I was still on the fence when these dropped on Lamnia. Hopefully Lamnia will get another batch because I'm on the fence no more.

A linerless FFG P4LW salt was the first thought that entered my mind when I got into Spyderco some 6-7 years ago and saw the P4LW in their lineup.
More than a few knives has come and gone since then, and while being quite content with my current selection, I'd sure have a spot for such a version of the P4 if it ever came to be.
If lamnia doesn't get them then coutellerie-tourangelle are supposed to receive some in September
Thanks for the heads up. I see that Lamnia comes out quite a bit better on price, and has free shipping which I don't belive is the case for C-T, so I'll take my chances and wait. FOMO got the better of me with the Catcherman and I paid the price, I'll try to keep my cool this round :D

This afternoon, a registered agent of the United States Government rolled up in his white cracker box truck and spiffy blue uniform and dropped off a couple boxes. As you can imagine, I couldn't wait to see what was inside. Please come long on this visual journey...

Because the Stretch 2 XL is an excellent knife, and I've been talking about wanting a LW for a long time, I wasn't about to miss out on this limited opportunity. I ordered two from different sellers. If one didn't come through, there would be a backup.

The SPY27 Mule sliced through the packing tape effortlessly, without even a nick or scratch on the blade, and I didn't cut myself. The folks at American Edge included a hand written note, a very cool sticker, and some Tootsie Rolls. Although I've never ordered from them before, the extra effort moves them up the list of preferred sellers.
IMG_1341 Medium.jpeg

These are a couple of good looking knives! The Burgundy and Black are very complementary. I was going to pick out the nicest to use and set the other aside, but both knives are spot on. The edges looks straight and even. The pivot on one blade was a little floppy, so that's the knife I chose to use.
IMG_1342 Medium.jpeg

I checked all the fasteners, put a dab of Loctite on the pivot screw, and adjusted everything to my liking. Spyderco still insists on putting the clip on the wrong side, so I had to fix that.

Using a new knife for the first time is awful. It's like pulling off bandages, but considerably more painful. But it's got to be done. I don't have any Burgundy, but maybe a little later I'll use the S2XL to cut the foil off a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon. Cheers!

Apologies if I missed it... is the Ladybug disco'd? I carried the Manbug for years because it was a little easier to manipulate with big hands. But when the K390 Ladybug dropped first it really changed my opinion. As a secondary carry the Ladybug is just better IMO, with a slimmer profile and pointer blade. Is it not being included in this sprint run?!? Again, sorry if I failed to locate the post/thread about this.

I cannot get over how great the Stretch 2 XL LW is. It is so freaking light! Here's a comparison between it and the Military (which I love too). Nearly equal blade lengths but the Stretch is significantly lighter, slicier, and more compact in the pocket:

Right? The Military 2 is 0.54" longer than the Stretch 2 XL, but the edge is only 0.19" longer? How did SAL fit so much edge into the Stretch? What kind of sorcery did he conjure?

No, there has not been a Ladybug in PD#1 announced. I personally prefer the Manbug because I value it mostly for the belly. I can also carry it nicely on my keys with a shackle, which doesn't interface so well with the Ladybug.

For a brief moment I really believed you had facilitated my long awaited second shot at the P4LW, but that hope quickly crumbled when I realized the current (sad) sate of our currency vs GBP. It’ll actually end up 40+% more expensive than if I had picked up one from Lamnia. It’s a very interesting variant of the P4 but don’t think I need it that much.

Thanks for sharing, that brief moment of excitement was, well.. exciting :D

Ugh, sorry about that. It used to be competitive once you deducted VAT as the shipping was super cheap, but now with you having to ship knives in the UK via courier that ship has sunk.
