@Deadboxhero will you be helping to develop the heat treatment protocol for this MT release (and hopefully production runs)?
No, I have not been involved.

I'm sure you guys will still enjoy it.
If you got a prototype Mule to test, then your involved, even if it's just actionable feedback. It looks like you already put micro bevel on from stropping.

Not trying to be insensitive, but before CPM stops production, I hope Spyderco was able to get enough steel for a Mule run for the rest of us, if not it might be a while until we see them.
I did not get one to test. This was just a sample Spyderco with sharing at the show.

What type of steel samples have you been testing out? 15v was pretty amazing, love to hear about what you are working on.

Did Eric share any info about hardness on the Spydie sample? I was reading about how Bradford got a sample of this steel and turned it into some knives and sold them, but at least one test was popping up around 61-62 on the Bradford. Curious to see what this sample is run at.
I ended up getting one of the Bradfords secondhand at a good price. Didn’t get to test the hardness but did reprofile (bad factory grind) and will test it out once my hand gets better (broken metacarpal). I’m looking forward to seeing how it performs even with a different heat treatment. Kind of tempted to use an XRF to see the composition but don’t want to ruin the surprise for myself or others when Dr. Larrin finalizes the recipe.

You can take my money right now if the hunting knife you made somehow ends up as a Spyderco sprint run or production model. :smiling-heart-eyes

Iv'e ben testing a Mule for a few months now. I use it every day for anything that I need to cut. Food prep, table knife, box cutter, mail opener, etc. Some fibrous, some plant work. I've been quite impressed with it. I haven't had a chance to drop it in Salt water yet, but that's planned. Also our R&D crew has been lab testing the alloy.

I just sharpened it for the first time a few days ago. Came up very nicely. Both Larrin and Crucible are to be commended. A new beautiful Blade Alloy for those of us that are into that.

Anyone hear any more about Crucible?

Hey RutyIron,

That's Exquisite! You have a talent. I've shared the poem with some of our crew. Hope you don't mind. I gave you credit. If Crucible makes it and we're promoting it, we may need to look you up?

You've been around for a while and have an idea what Spyderco is all about. Would you be interested in creating a poem about Spyderco?

Can I help with a few lines? 😉

The steel was light, the shine was bright, as I started sharpening my spyderco tonight.

The edge was keen, as I wiped the blade clean, on my spydie Mule Team.

Oh, Sal.
I seem to have gone and embarrassed myself... again. While it's true that I sometimes use my vocabulary to turn my thoughts into awkward prose, or my lathe to turn my ideas into functioning machines, that poem isn't entirely my own creation.

You know how you might get a new knife, so for the next week you're in the kitchen cutting up breakfast, lunch, and dinner? Or maybe a new camera on your phone, so you find yourself shooting everything that you come across throughout your day? Well I found a new tool that I've become enamored with, and they call it AI. It's been great for helping direct me to the answers to technical questions. But it's also a fun toy for goofy stuff, like drawing pictures or writing "fluff" articles.

When I was sitting here thinking about how "Proto-X" sounded like a cool name for a knife steel or 80's New Wave Band, it occurred to me that it might be fun to tell the AI to write a poem about it. I gave the AI a single-sentence request, and the poem you read was the result. I don't think I'm guilty of plagiarism, but I don't think I can take credit for the writing. But if it brought a little cheer to you or the other folks at Spyderco, then I'm unapologetic and happy.

Enjoy your Tuesday!

Don't worry I told AI to send me a CPM-PROTO-X Mule, it didn't work, but those images that came up... that poor animal. :winking-tongue

Hi Rusty Iron,

Thanx for setting the record straight. Please do not ask AI to write a poem about Spyderco. I prefer humans to do that.

Spyderco and Sal Glesser the Knife Pimp

In the realm of blades so fine,
Where every cut aligns,
There stands a man, a knife pimp divine,
Sal Glesser, the king of design.
From Golden, Colorado’s embrace,
Spyderco's fame did not race,
But leap and bound, a global chase,
With pocket clips and serrated grace.
His knives, a symphony of steel,
In every hand, a story to feel,
From Para 3 to Bodacious deal,
Each one a masterpiece, a tale.
The pocket clip, a signature sign,
A hole round, not just a design,
For one-handed flip, a sign,
Of innovation, a timeless find.
Sal Glesser, the world’s knife pimp,
Crafts blades that make hearts skip,
In every pocket, a trusty grip,
Spyderco’s legacy, a timeless trip.
So here’s to Sal, the knife pimp true,
And Spyderco, the brand we pursue,
In every cut, a dream come through,
A testament to what we can do.

Oh my. So I've been making knives out of MagnaCut since the first heat, mostly kitchen knives and some hunters. One of my favorite steels of late is K390. A new steel from Larrin that is a stainless version of K390?? Now that does have my interest. I've been looking at K390 to make some knives from but I think I might hold off until this new steel is available.

I'd definitely be in for a mule in it.
