This image captures the fleeting moments of a Spyderco Phoenix rising from the ashes of it’s predecessor, being reborn as sprint run right in my own hand!

I chose to showcase the most recent form of the Phoenix and create an image that represents the diverse mythological symbolism responsible for this knife’s name. The mythological Phoenix is often portrayed as a symbol of resilience, renewal, and resurrection through a brilliant show of flames.

The process to take this photo involved repeatedly setting my hand aflame to both dial in the camera settings with a self timer but also capture a flame that was cooperating enough to still focus on the knife. As combustive as it is, the process is safe but capturing the photo was demanding; it was an intensive yet delicate balancing act of lighting and timing.

Awesome picture... I never know what is harder, setting up the image or actually trying to take a good picture.

I tried something sort of similar with my Manix 2 over a fire pit, trying to get some flames around it, while I took the picture fast before the knife got hot was a challenge. I think i lost some arm hair trying to accomplish this too.

Counter Puppy blue. This is a small, inexpensive and, at first glance, unserious kitchen knife. In fact, it turned out to be a very convenient and functional universal knife. If it’s not about cutting large volumes of food, most often your hand reaches out to Counter Puppy. It looks like you can cut anything with this baby. One of the most commonly used knives in the kitchen.

My entry this year is bittersweet. The diamond plate background I have always loved using is no more. I transitioned into a new job at a new organization this year and no longer am able to take pictures at my favorite spot. I did post this picture once before in the pocket thread and it was one of the last ones I took there. And although I do love my new job, I certainly miss the old one.

The models I chose are the Stretch2XL and the Manbug. I love the combo of a large and small blade together, and these two knives currently go everywhere I do as they live in the center console of my car.

Thanks Salty! I had an idea for a fishing photo but I just never spent the time to take it. Too busy fishing! Maybe next year.

I appreciate it, William! I find the setup and execution equally as time consuming. Photographing the flames was definitely a challenge.

Model: Micro Dyad Black Pearl (C112P&SBP)



My pick this year went to the Micro Dyad in black Pearl.
An amazing looking knife with it's many hues, but notoriously difficult to capture on camera somehow.
I'm glad to say it worked out after some trial and error, and I love the way these natural materials look!

I went with the Brouwer. It’s a knife I don’t think it gets the recognition it deserves until you hold it on your hand.

This year I decided to enter my Spyderco One Eyed Jack. This is by far my favorite knife from Spyderco. The craftsmanship is absolutely beautiful. This knife was the first of my collection. If I had to pick one knife on the entire planet, it would be this one right here. My cat is named Jack, the sand comes from the Gulf Coast and the tiny stone heart was given to me by someone very special. This photo ties my love of many things all together. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
