I noticed a slight resemblance myself. I would prefer an exclusive or sprint in future since I have the Shaman in same steel as this new release . The Bodacious does intrigue me . Dan

Re: Bodacious Discussion
Is this the new PM2? Seems like it could be popular with many sprints and exclusives to come.

Re: Bodacious Discussion
I'm just waiting for mine to ship. Ordered in the 15th and still waiting.
Re: Bodacious Discussion
Only if they manage to bring the price down to PM2 levels. As much as I'd like to try this model, I will wait until the next sale before getting one as it's too pricey for my taste.
Re: Bodacious Discussion
Us pricing already scares me so Europe pricing will definitely slow me down for a while !
But eh, since sprints are often the same price, with some special steel that definitely changes everything about the knife, I'll sure take it !
I handled one a few months ago and I really like it, I like the flat scales actually, even if a Shaman is better in the palm, I like the absence of choil, making you put your indew behind the sorta guard

Re: Bodacious Discussion
It sure does! Wide leaf blade with a lowered point. It's like a Lum, but with a guard that doesn't allow your finger to slide forward.
The lack of anything stopping the hand from sliding forward was the only reason I sold my ZDP Lum. I'd be happy to replace it with a Bodacious variant, someday.

Re: Bodacious Discussion
At first I wasn't too moved by the Bodacious, but the more I look at it, especially the comparisons with the chinese folde, the more I start liking it. I'll definitely wait for some more interesting materials, but it's on the list. Just wonder if the hump on the handle can be sanded down?
Re: Bodacious Discussion
Seems the price may be an issue with this one. They're staying in stock everywhere, rare for a new drop. Today I even had an official dealer reach out to me asking if I'd buy one for $210. I bet they'll sell like crazy next MAP sale if they drop a good amount.
Re: Bodacious Discussion
Hoping that the eventual exclusives will be better-priced compared to the standard release. I know this is a new knife and all, and that standard development/prototyping/tooling expenses are factored into the final cost, but if you look at it, you're getting a thinner and blockier-handled Shaman at a higher initial price.
@phaust here's hoping the price across the dealers will eventually dip to $210! That seems like a more reasonable price considering the blocky handles (less manufacturing cost since the reason the Shaman was expensive was because of the rounded handles).
Come to think of it, the Mil 2 standard comes in at $210, and has more blade in it.

Re: Bodacious Discussion
How does the bodacious feel flicking it open compared to the shaman? I really like the heavy clunk of the shaman blade when you flick it open. They are probably my favorite to play with even though I don't carry them much.

Sorry for the late reply!
... to be clear: The comp. lock is a great and ingenious design, also really strong and so many love it for a reason!!
It just so happens that I personally prefer backlock, CBBL or liner/frame lock, especially on langer, more "hard use", outdoorsy folders.
Reasons are ergos, closing bias/detent, how natural and convenient a locktype can be operated especially with gloves or cold, wet, slippery hands, how secure the knife sits in hand while operating the lock.
Since this has been discussed often and extensively already I'd rather pm you for more details of my opinion, if you want me too.
One thing I believe:
Most likely the Bodacious' overall design (blade and handle shape and dimensions) would not be possible with backlock or CBBL.
But it could have a frame- or linerlock, which I'd happen to prefer.
Anyway, keep in mind I am sure rather an outlier in that regard and am still very tempted by the Bodacious as it is!
Top three going by pocket-time (update April 25):

Interesting. When I handle the Lum Chinese, I feel like there's zero chance of sliding forward.Bolster wrote: ↑Mon Jun 24, 2024 5:40 pm

Maybe my hands are more sweaty and slippery?

Re: Bodacious Discussion
I have no idea, I wouldn't bet on that.
There is so much curvature to the handle that I feel like I can push on the butt of the handle if I need to push on the tip and there's so much curvature to the handle that I feel like I can hold on if I'm pull cutting.
I would like to hear other peoples' opinions.

Re: Bodacious Discussion
Received this one yesterday from SMKW. It's got some real size to the blade and overall sturdiness to it for a relatively slim handle and flat profile in pocket.

I haven't handled a Shaman, so I saw the 3.6" blade length and mentally put it in the Bradley 2 size range, but it's more knife than that:

It's well made - good centering and action, clean and left/right even grinds and bevel on the blade, uniform finish and chamfered edges on the scales. I wish the backspacer was flush with the scales rather than slightly recessed, but it's evenly done so I guess that's a preference/taste thing.
I might look for a deep carry clip but don't yet a need for new scales. Going to carry it a bit before I do anything to it regardless, see how the action breaks in.
I paid $177+tax from SMKW, with the MAP sale and a coupon code, and it feels like a good deal with that. Some other dealers during the sale had it for ~$220, and I would probably be ok with that but not be calling it a "good deal." At the full $262 usual MAP, I would be thinking a lot longer about it and wouldn't be surprised if something else grabbed my attention before I decided on it.
No other real deep thoughts yet; haven't had the chance to use it much beyond an apple and a couple boxes. Really appreciate that it's a .125" blade instead of .157"; I don't even bother trying 4mm folders anymore.
