Thanks for the pic. I am waiting on mine, but it is a collector's club one, I don't think they have shipped yet.

I love those green handles (green is my favourite color), I can only hope that the Para Millie will get them eventually

I must confess... I did order 4 of those bad boys. I am keeping 2 and giving 2 to a couple of good friends.

I have one of mine in my pocket right now and it's just awesome. My goal is to see if the CPM-D2 holds up better than the CPM-S30V. Hopefully since it's CPM it's pretty rust resistant too.

David - have you had problems with your CPM S30V's??

Nope, not at all. In fact, it's been one of the best steels that I've ever used.

I have had S30V chip on a knife that I owned from another manufacturer. I have never had a problem with CPM-S30V from Spyderco.

Ok, so I received two D2 Millies today. Both arrived having a few very small rust spots on them. In looking at some pics people posted, specifically WinstonWolf's, they appear to have rust on them as well. I know it's only surface rust, but should these have rust already? They both still had a pretty heavy coat of oil on the blade that I would think would protect them from rust for a while. Is it cause for concern? Is it the d2 used in these? Most just wiped off with a rag and oil, but there are still some spots. Should I just polish it off? Any help on this would be appreciated. I've never had any spydie witha spec of rust on the blade before, let alone before it's been carried and used

Wow you really had me worried. I just checked mine. Just to be sure I wiped it down really well. No rust perfect condition.

Bear in mind that D2 is a tool steel, NOT a stainless steel. While its' corrosion resistance is decent, it WILL rust more readily than any steel Spyderco has used before (or at least easier than any I know they have used).

Where do you see rust in WinstonWolf's pictures? I just looked at them all again and cannot even find a shot with what might look like "rust".

All 4 of mine looked beautiful. I still have 2 of them and they have no rust at all.

from what I understand D2 is right on the border of stainless at 11 to 13% chromium, part of the effect of the cpm process should be to distribute the chromium in such a way that it becomes "more" stainless, I would guess as stainless or more than ATS 34 or something like that. I for a long time didn't realize how important the stainless factor is, over time I've come to realize though I have to take better care of my older less stainless steels, than the newer stuff, Or so it seems. On the other end of the spectrum I picked up a custom knife a small neck knife made of 01 a while ago, and that really rests it needs to be cleaned and oiled regularly, or as has happened to some degree oil for my fingertips will cause it to corrode, and it has picked up a patina even over the last couple months.

so why choose due to it all, I would suspect partially for its place and make making history it has been a tough well respected steel for a long time.
It also has a good edge holding ability it is said. The cpm process should smooth out the carbides in allow for a nice fine edge, probably make it even tougher, more stain resistant, and generally very formidable.

But my question would be doesn't really stand up against steals designed within this process?

I won't one, probably mostly for the history of this unique experiment. because I like the military in general, and they probably would make it if it didn't seem to be a good fit for the process.

Recall Sypderco did it's own testing on it before they thought about releasing it. Also recall Sal stated it was so good they just had to get it out ASAP. Don't hit any panic buttons just yet, and objectively give these knives a good test. That's what they're for. Joe

Note: I see no signs of rust on the knife in Winston wolf's picture. Fuzz and lint, but no rust is evident, even in the thumbhole.

Wow! Rust spots on a knife. Who would have thunk it? Its D2 not 420 J2.

CPM or not, D2 is a well known ruster with contact to sweat and finger print contact. I gave up EDCing folders in D2 for just this reason. I would like to test out this knife in CPM D2 but funds won't let me buy another Milly! Three is enough already... :D

David, I could be wrong, but I was looking at the original set of pictures before the oil was wiped down. Still see what might be a couple small areas near the thumb hole and on the spine jimping.

I can re-post the pics before the oil wipe down. I took them off the forum because the burlap looks better. But they are still on my webserver.

I saw the same thing but after inspecting it, it does not look like rust, it looks more like a cosmetic flaw than anything else. I have cleaned the knife (after using it on sappy trees, apples, steak, and many other things) and that spot is still there (just below the Spyderhole).

Well I am glad to report I just snagged one on the bay.
I was worried I would miss this one.
I am not worried about the rust or staining, some of my favorite knives were my old carbon steel Case knives with a great patina on the blade.
IMO its a thing of beauty on some knives.
