I swapped in some black titanium hardware and let it eat. I like the brown factory scales on the LW better than the brown g10.

Nice Manix!

Is the Opel running? Which model?
1973
1.9-litre Ascona was exported to the United States as the "Opel 1900" and marketed at Buick-Opel dealerships. It was my grandmothers car back in the 70’s & 80’s. We still have it. Not running as of today but with a little work I’m sure it would.
Cool. Thanks. Those are cute little cars. What sort of transmission does it have?
4speed manual transmission

Mine arrived today. Can't make a determination on a "sample of one," but if I could, I'd be tempted to say Spyderco has upped their game in terms of quality. This 15V Manix is centered, came sharp enough I've no need to sharpen it myself, beautiful stonewash, crisp markings, good even grind, everything I want, and nothing I don't. Good job on this one, Spydercrew!

And I'm extra happy to have a made-in- :usflag knife in my pocket.

Bolster, I completely agree with you. These Manix 2 LW 15V knives arrived in perfect condition—blade perfectly centered, flawless edge—just outstanding overall. I'm really glad Spyderco listened to the feedback after all the complaints about the Para 3 15V. That one had too many issues, and I ended up returning mine.

Manix 15v LW just arrived.

Date is 1.25 B
Box code is AY

QC is excellent. Very sharp from the factory.

Switched the clip, ECDIed it and Voilà:

Thanks Spyderco and Shawn!
Thanks for giving us the Box and Blade Date Codes jwbnyc ! :bug-red-white

I finally got a chance today to get out my 2016 CTS-XHP bladed C101PBN2 brown LW Manix 2. To compare the brown against the 15V brown LW. There is more difference than I remembered.

I have also recently purchased a New old Stock 2010 Stag Arms C101GPRBK2 Manix 2 from a Seller on eBay. He had two available, and I think he still has one of them available?

Image

Bravo on yer OG Stag Manix2 - I think you're the second person I've ever seen post pics that also has the Stag Arms model, I love the color but man the texture of that G10 is uniquely rough I must say. It's great if you have gloves on.

Cheers,

John

I saw KnivesPlus had a modified 15V LW Manix 2 in stock with their exlusive "midnight blue" AWT scales, and I had to grab one. Looking forward to giving 15V a shot finally.

I don't have the LW, but I do have 2 of the original ones(got them at near original prices, one to use, one as a backup just in case something happens to the first), they're absolutely amazing knives. The Manix platform I've come to really enjoy, the heat treatment is amazing, hopefully I can spare the funds to get a LW to also have. At 30 degrees inclusive, they cut and cut like a laser forever. This entire job Spyderco and Shawn did on this collab is amazing. I love mine.

It arrived today, and man it is a looker for sure. So glad they went with stonewash instead of satin; maybe that's just a necessity with 15V, but I much prefer stonewashed finish to any kind of satin. Action and lockup are flawless, and the factory edge is actually kind of insane by even by Spyderco standards. Looking forward to seeing how the 15V holds up.

I noticed these at Knives Plus, and debated grabbing one, but didn't know if I would like the midnight blue color, but it looks great! AWT is completely out of stock on Manix 2 LW anodized scales. It appears everyone made a mad dash.

Yep. Seems like 'the thing' is to grab one of these LWs and then some AWTs for it. Can't disagree though, sounds like an awesome plan.

The latest ones of these I've held have been remarkable consistent. Zero to slight centeredness issues (and easily correctable) , very smooth and snappy, minimal lock stick that has been clearing up, and every single one I've gotten my hands on (about 7-8 total) have felt this way, with very minimal deviations.

This one seems slightly off-center towards the clip side and I couldn't seem to get it any more centered with a fair bit of fiddling, but it's only a slight nudge and everything else about the knife is flawless. I've had bad luck with Manix 2 LWs having moderate to severe lock stick, but this is the best example of Manix 2 action I've come across, and the lock out is maybe the best I've ever felt on a folder. Imperfect centering is the kind of thing I can deal with compared to issues I've had on this model in the past.

One thing this knife has made me certain of is that I really wish Spyderco did more stonewash finishes. I'd choose it over satin every single time.

Mine also was not quite centered, but loosening all the screws and pushing the blade the other way and retightening seemed to do the trick. But I also have a Para 3 LW 15V that I carry all the time and it has horrible centering. Like you, I don't mind too much. The detent is far more important to me.

That is great to hear about the lock on yours. Mine had minor stick (I'd put it at a 2-3 on a scale of 1-10, and now it is down to about a .5-1 on that same scale. It actually has no stick if I lock it out super slow, or flick it super hard. I'm hoping it totally clears up, but I'm fine if it stays how it is. I'm sort of wondering if it is due to the finishing on the top inside of the locking block where the ball comes to rest.

And yeah, the finish on the blade is better than the Para3s and the BBB logo is super crisp. The Native 5s also have this crisp logo as well. I'd put this one in the running for 'best Spyderco release of the year', if there were such an unofficial thing.

Did I miss a memo somewhere? :thinking

A Reddit user has just recently done a scale swap with his new LW Manix 2 15V, and found a black ceramic ball bearing inside.

I remember hearing about this becoming a possibility, before the Manix 2 Salt was going to be produced. I never heard that this was going to possibly be the default going forward?

I am going to open mine up soon, and look inside, but, I pre-ordered this LW 15V at two different Dealers, and ended up getting two of them (by accident). The one I have put to use already, has an assembly Date code of FY, and my now extra still unused LW 15V has a Code of AY. I really don't want to take the still new one apart, because I am going to sell it back off now. Do we think that opening up my now used FY and finding a black ceramic ball bearing inside, really tells us for sure that the AY's were also all this way?

Now to be clear, I am all for ceramic ball bearings, so that is not an issue with me. I just find it hard to believe that as close of attention as I pay to all of this, that somehow this slipped by me ahead of time. :smiling-cheeks

Has Spyderco made any public statement about this? :bug-red-white

I just finished looking at all my Manix's from the outside. All the older ones have a steel-colored ball. The 15V looks black.

I can't quite recall the source, but I do remember reading, or hearing that the Manix was updating rolling changes/CQI to include the ceramic ball for the lock. Might have initially been an off-hand comment posted by our own Michael Janich, or perhaps a mention at one of the shows from Eric himself. This was 2023 (earliest), or 2024 (most likely). Hard to pinpoint for certain, time has been moving blurrily fast these past 5 years, for me.

I had a hard time telling just by peeking in, RustyIron, because the ball is so reflective. Then I grabbed the brown 2016 CTS-XHP LW, and looked in at them while side by side, and sure enough, the LW 15V ball bearing is darker. :smiling-halo
