It's the name of the new coating.

Just to help clarify, it is not "DLC" coating. (Diamond-like Carbon)

ZrOC is a Zirconium based coating. Probably stands for "Zirconium Oxide Coating"

Edit: ZrOC = Zirconium OxyCarbide

Ah dang. Wish I hadn't missed out on the non-coated version. Been wanting a REX 121 Spyderco for a while.

If you Google "Vaportech ZrOC" you will find more info about it. It's a PVD ceramic coating.

That's fine but to most of us, and Spyderco, these acronyms actually mean something. :respect :bug-white-red

PVD = Physical Vapor Deposition
DLC = Diamond-Like Carbon
TiCN = Titanium CarboNitride
ZrOC = Zirconium OxyCarbide

Aren't the Sage 5 options still available?

Besides the new one which of those do you like best I have always favored DLC and TiCN have a hard time choosing between the DLC has scratched down to metal on me not easily but it has, but not much and never on the TiCN.

You're correct. I forgot about those since I'm not a huge fan of the Sage series. Kicking myself for missing the satin Wharncliffe. I'd LOVE for a Dragonfly 2 Wharncliffe in REX 121 or a Military 2 or Manix 2.

I'll have to be content with the YoJumbo in 15v if it ever finally releases :grin-sweat

Spyderco is really something. Is ZrOC, Zirconium OxyCarbide, only available at Spyderco? This is some technology, I have to buy that knife and see what the coating looks like, see how it holds up to pocket wear.

When I went to college my neighbor was obtaining his doctorate in coatings. He did research all day long.

Very excited for the coated Rex 121 drop. Will try to get wharnie this time around. I'm still looking for the Native Chief, Yojimbo, and Yojumbo in 15v too. I thought these would be released in 2025 and here we are in April 2026 and no dealers are talking about these knives anymore.The LW PM2 appears to be up next?

Does anyone have the latest info on the release dates for these 15v knives as we rush past spring?

I prefer DLC because it is more durable than TiCN.

I bought a Yojumbo in S90v in case I missed the 15v version. I think that I bought it from Bento Box Shop.

YES, bring on the remaining 15v knives!!!

This is probably what I should do. I already sent off some Yojimbo scales to be engraved and I don't even have the knife yet. S90V would be a cool replacement, but I'll bet those are hard to find. I'm still holding out hope for the 15V. I thought if anyone would know what has happened to these knives it would be the people on this forum.
