It’s a 50th anniversary not a 5th though. Putting a little 5 next to the Spydiehole just flat out wouldn’t read as “50.” It would read as a “5” next to the Spydiehole. There aren’t many, if any, knives that offer enough space next to the Spydiehole to make the “5” large enough to make it read as a “50.”

That would really be challenging to do in any production setting. Trying to guess how many we would need is not possible.

Exactly. The "on all knives for the year" thing doesn't work. I agree a special alteration of some kind (bug logo, extra logo, engraving) would be awesome, but it can really only go on whatever the actual anniversary knife is.

I don’t exactly get why understand why you would need to know how many, I imagined it would just be an extra production step for every model before leaving the factory in the engraving process (perhaps something I’m not understanding). My problem is I just think it’s a bad idea for every knife spyderco makes that year to be a model forever indebted to remind you it’s a knife made in the year of the company’s 50th anniversary, I get it’s special, but idk about that special. I think they should stick to tradition and just make a special sprint run.

A laser engraving of the 0 can ring the hole so it reads better.

I just thought about this but I would love for an anniversary knife to sport the colors of the current Spyderco boxes. Red black and gold is great !

Engraving the inside of the Spydie hole would be cool, I don't know if it's even possible.

This is exactly what I proposed earlier in this thread, so of course and still I´d be all in for a "three tone spyderco colored" (FRN...) handle! :clinking-mugs

No idea though how complicated this would be to make in reality - I personally though would happily pay a high(er) price for a three tone colored handle on a anniversary knife, even more so than for some fancy and expensive actual handle material.

My suggestion to engrave a 5 next to the Spyderhole was mainly in jest, that’s what the winking emoji at the end of my sentence meant (i.e., a joke)... The Spyderhole is perfectly round as in the letter “o”, a zero is technically an oval. Try not to take everything so seriously.

Just so we’re clear though, I know you don’t like me and I can tell you read my posts with different emotion than everyone else’s. Relax. I knew your idea was a joke from the start. It wasn’t until numerous others chimed in acting like it wasn’t a joke that I expressed my opinion on the idea. It just so happens to differ from theirs. 🤷‍♂️ It’s really that simple.

A lot of good suggestions, thanx. I also thought about a new model? I haven't had an opportunity to speak with Eric about any plans he might have for the 50th.

sal

A new model would be really nice indeed.

Another option would be "new version / size of already popular model"

Can´t help, but there that "mid sized Native" comes to my mind again - Native being really popular, that "mid" or better "PM2 / Manix" size also, but not available in a Native yet, Golden made... sounds good to me personally for a Anniversary knife (below Kobolds "mock up" and pic from this thread viewtopic.php?f=2&t=90338&start=40#p1546863)

Definitely, a fancified 3.5" Native would be a surprise move, that could pave the way for a later, more affordable/accessible variant.

I would also love to see a Fluted Ti Native Chief OR a S2XL in Magnacut/Spy27 and scales made out of ironwood burl elder burl or some nice natural material like that.

Or maybe give the OG Military one last salvo of salute for its years of service?

Some folks might not like me for pointing this out, but there's a Military 2 which will likely sell much better than the Military "1".
So, I figure the original Military's days are likely numbered.
A special 50th anniversary model would be a good send off for the original Military.
My thoughts also. Make it like the Ti framelock and CF scaled model, but Magnacut instead of S90V.
Use a 5 :bug-red-white engraving on the blade representing five decades.

I would love to see the Worker revived for as an anniversary knife but I suspect something like a super special Delica is more likely.

Would love a new Eric and Sal collaboration. Something maybe that signified the changing of the guard? Or how about an Eric, Sal and Kolby collaboration (Eric’s kid, met him when I visited Spyderco, he’s great at customer sales/service already)? At least I think it was Eric’s kid. Hope I got the kids name right. Sorry if I remembered it wrong. A 3 generation collaboration would be cool and symbolize the family like community that Spyderco has built over time.

Bumping this, as it has been on my mind lately.

It should definitely be a golden model, and I'd go with a fluted Ti PM2, perhaps in MagnaMax. The PM2 has both Sal and Eric's makers marks, and it is arguably the most iconic Golden model.

But...

What if they took a cue from the 15V BBB project and did a 50th release on most (or even all) Golden models? This would make less expensive models like the Native 5 LW & PARA3 LW available while giving those who are insane (like me) a chance at collecting the whole set. They don't all have to be the exact same steel/scales either. A common lasered logo would bind them together.

It would be a huge project, I know, but with the Golden expansion it might be possible. It will be such an historic event that I think the resources needed are justified.

Finalise the razor design. Make the scales the actual colour of the famous Van. Call the razor the “ Breadvan”. 😎😍 Fifty years of Integrity and Innovation with the finest Edge.

Spyderco's 50th founding anniversary is only two years away, in 2026.

I'm fairly sure management has already decided on what model they will use, but what would your guess be? And what special details could said knife contain like high-end handle scales and such?
Well the 50th is the “Golden” anniversary. Maybe limited edition gold scale insert and sell them to raise money for charities?
The Worker?
10 of each model in production at the Golden Colorado factory?

How about they revive the an older model like the Worker or the Economy model?
